The Endzone Garden Thread

My tomatoes are 9in tall and need to be planted, (The containers are 3in tall) but forecast still has lows of mid forties. I don't think I want to put in ground until the over night temp is in the fifties. So I'm going to transplant to bigger pots and target first weekend in May for planting.
Pot on!

Cured my germination issue. Mennonite center had some tomatoes I didn’t mind trying. Got some German Johnson, old German to replace the dads sunset. Husky Cherry. Cherokee purple to replace the carbon. Sweet Israeli. Maybe one other. The. Went to green house and re-potted dwarf purple reign, dwarf sweet scarlet, and Santiago. Re-potted the sweet peppers and okra. If all else fails can soak the okra and direct sow. Just waiting on my neighbor to come till and a bit warmer temps.

got some yellow squash I’m looking forward to trying. Tempest and one other. They grow more upright and you can stake them. Gonna skip the watermelon and typical cantelopes. But got some different small sweet melons to try. Solstice corn will go down as soon as he fills. It’s a cool weather germinator. Then follow that with some gotta have it. Got different cukes to try this year and a smaller sweeter variety of butternut. And of course my green beans. Also seeded some Chinese broccoli and some Brussels that are trying to hit one inch.

Have you figured out what caused the germination failure in your greenhouse?

I had almost 100% germination. It was the unexpected extension to our vacation that was the problem. 🤪

No. My SIL has had the same problem. We haven't had many warm days condusive to germinating. So, the slower seeds like tomatoes and peppers just din't sprout. I saw some okra coming up, then disappeared. And I haven't had the time to be as diligent keeping them as saturated as they should. I've let the cups dry out a couple times. It is possible I might have had the seeds too deep as well. The brocoli and brussels came right up pronto. I should have laid some plastic wrap over the trays first time around considering the consistent low temps. Greenhouse hasn't been a warm place.

Planted pepper and tomato plants last Friday in Nashville. I watered them in, but there is nothing better than "real" rain.
Too big for me to till. Neighbor comes and does it with his tractor. Just trying to catch it dry enough when he's available has been near impossible. But, I guess it evens out. Been to cool to do much more than having the plants stare at you in the cool soil.

Aren't you on the Highland Rim? I also use raised beds so that the soil above ground level will drain and warm faster.

Yes, Jackson County about 10 miles SE'ish from Gainesboro, but a Cookeville mailing address. Wish his tractor tiller had a raised bed attachment. I think my step son acquired a raised bed attachment that lays the plastic roll as you go. He's got to get a little welding done.

If I had to guess since I've never actually measured, my garden bed is 15ish wide, 20 max. Prob in the 70 range in length.

I had almost exactly that 30 years ago. Ha, more than I can handle these days.

If you know of Cummins Falls, my house sits atop the bluff . Can walk out back about 20 yards into the woods for a nice overlook of the falls.

Yep, spent a lot of time there in the 70s. Also twin falls which I can't find on a map and Burgess falls.
I think twin falls is on private property. it was in the 70s, but some nice folks didn't mind if you parked near their house and walked past their barn and down a trail to the falls. I understand, the world has changed.

Ah yes. We already discussed this. I did try to locate twin falls but have had no success. I was planning on checking with my niece. They hit up alot of private land falls while she was here.
