Let's see, two years ago we had a good defense under Wilcox. True we lost some good players but we have the talent on this team to MORE THAN MAKEUP FOR the loses. Now let's see a little further, we happen to have a new coach and brand new staff who seems to be motivating the current TALENTED players on the team. Further, this coach seems to be doing an outstanding job of recruiting despite our performance over the past few years.

Bottom line, I don't share your negavol attitude. The glass is half full and RISING TO THE TOP! You need an attitude check with regards to volnation!

No we don't. Bray, Hunter and Patterson will all be drafted this year. It's far from a certainty that the guys stepping into their spots have futures in the NFL. That's not to say they are altogether worthless, but we will definitely be downgrading at all 3 positions.

An example of another optimist! They are STILL coming out of the woodwork despite the efforts of CBJ!

Most think , or hope that the roster was much better than the results. That proved true with offense last year. No way the offense (personnel) was that much worse in 11. A couple of coaching changes and the talent showed.
Same with D. No way they were that much worse in 12. Either way, we're gonna find out soon enough.
But as far as what to judge, the only bright spot in 12 was the offense, the majority of which was the passing game. And we all know that score. Basically 4 players from that O are likely gone in 1st two rounds. Rivera in later rounds.
-Kicking game awful. Defense was worst in history of the school. Offense is a total unknown at this point. Combine with regime change.
Stop your piss and moaning. It is what it is.

We have top 20 talent maybe better. I don't know our average recruiting class but I'm guessing average bout 15? I know it's not top five or whatever, yes most of our games are against teams that have a better recruiting average. We have talent people, now show me how to coach em !! Gbo

We probably have top 20ish talent nationally. However, the problem is that we barely have top 10 talent in our own conference. It doesn't really do a lot of good to be more talented than the teams you never play.

Yea true. We are playin teams with more talent. But, it's not like Memphis playing Florida or anything. Look at Louisville vs Florida. How's that talent gap. If players can play inspired fundamentally sound football we can play with anyone. Even Louisville beat fl, it just tells me it was all coaching.i mean we can't even get lucky and win an important game for Christ sake. I'm just tryin to look at the positives so I can look forward to football lol

Recruiting has been going well enough to give me some hope that in the coming years we will finally start to see some improvement. I still have a feeling that we're in for one more pretty dismal (5-7, 6-6) season this fall though.

I have hope also. I just want to see a team that competes and doesn't quit.

Honestly, I have no problem on what Chris Low did (except his Vandy comment). He said he seeded "all 14 SEC football teams based on how he thinks they would be seeded going into the 2013 season" and I guess to me thats mostly based on our record last year.

So, being seeded 13 is about right... however, no way in hell we are finishing 13 :)

1. UT lost the 5 or 6 best offensive players from a 5 win team

2. UT had the worst defense in history last year

3. UT has only 5 SEC wins in 3 years

4. UT will start a QB with not 1 SEC victory

5. UT has had 4 head coaches in the last 6 years

6. UT lost almost the entire coaching staff last year

7. UT has not recruited well (overall) for the last 6-7 years

8. UT just went through an embarrassing head coaching search

9. UT has struggled to defeat the small schools...most consider division 11 for several years

I think almost any rational prediction for 2013 would put UT at or near the very bottom of the SEC

While UT lost a lot from last year, I still see them finding a way to win 7-8 games. CBJ actually seems to have a clue about how to coach football, something that Dooley was quite lacking in.

It comes as no great surprise for me to inform you all that this team was absolutely horrible last year. If that justifies our 13 seed, then that's understandable.

With that being said, never ever EVER underestimate the significance of competent coaching. Jimmies and Joes help the most, but competent coaching plugs a lot of holes. Fix the defense, at least to 2011 shape, and we have probably 8 wins last year (at least). And while the passing game will surely step back some this year, I expect our run game to pick up the slack with experienced runners, OL, and coaches.

So, no, I don't think we end up a 13 seed in the end, but hey, what have we done up to this point to justify any other seeding?

If I just look at our record from last year that 13 seems reasonable. However we were a way better team than it appeared. We lost every close game we played. Uf, Uga, sc, and mo were all coin flips. But we have to accept out record. I just hope all those teams come out next year against us thinking they can sleep walk through the games. And yes we lost a lot of our offensive personell, but we got a huge upgrade at coaching. And we do return our entire oline and most of the d. We aren't going to be championship material but we could definitely win 8-9 games and find ourselves ranked in the 4-6 range in the sec. Throw in a top 5 recruiting class and were back.

Someone mentioned The UF - Louisville game. No question a lesser talented team can game plan and get jacked for one game and 'shock the world.' But in the SEC you have to do that EVERY week. CBJs has never had to do that. Now, based on what you see, the guys energy level seesm to be around that of Orgeron on 6 Red Bulls. I just want to see how this team responds on the field. Family picknics, Twitter fodder and stuff are fine. But hey, last Fall many thought Milligan was a great idea. It did nothing to affect the win column.
Even the might Saban looked bad his first year at Bama. Remember?

if you're looking solely on records from last year to make your seeding, then 13 is wrong.. couldn't be lower than 12th considering auburn and ky had worse records than we did. Yea it's not much better, but it is what it is.

They would indeed get spanked by A&M, yet I don't see how they can't pick any upsets? Its March Madness!

Gotta love the off-season.

My only gripe with the ranking is the notion that Auburn will improve significantly with a new coach and new system.
