#8 - What was embarrassing about hiring CBJ?

No joke. People talk about rockstar hires ect...I truly believe we got exactly what we needed. A guy who's proven himself at smaller schools and jumped at the opportunity when we called. As far as embarrassing I wouldn't call gruden not coming or strong saying no embarrassing. Really I'd call it a blessing in disguise. Strong for sure. This guy IMO isnt a great coach. Butch was 2-1 against him with inferior talent and didn't come from a high profile gig like strong. But that's just the way coaching searches go. If u don't hire urban or Saban I struck out. Of course the prior time urban and Saban were hired (at Florida and lsu) neither were considered rockstars

Butch was 0-1 against Dooley. Not a good argument.

However, I think Jones will do pretty well here.

1. UT lost the 5 or 6 best offensive players from a 5 win team

2. UT had the worst defense in history last year

3. UT has only 5 SEC wins in 3 years

4. UT will start a QB with not 1 SEC victory

5. UT has had 4 head coaches in the last 6 years

6. UT lost almost the entire coaching staff last year

7. UT has not recruited well (overall) for the last 6-7 years

8. UT just went through an embarrassing head coaching search

9. UT has struggled to defeat the small schools...most consider division 11 for several years

I think almost any rational prediction for 2013 would put UT at or near the very bottom of the SEC

Sure we've been barrel riding the low stream as of late but come on man...

#1.. You're right we did just loose major parts of our record setting offense. The maturity and love for the program that is essential to winning on the biggest stage in college football, will suffer for this.:ermm:

Outside of hunter in his freshman year and C.P. we lost a QB who loved the idea of his own legacy. Best raw talent on campus Ina decade? Sure...but I dare say Bray could out raw talent 85% of the best QB's out there..there's more to it than that.

#2.. Scheme and coaching, and believing in your team.
All lacking...the same guys put up close to top 25 numbers the year before (as previously stated in this thread).. There's talent there it just wasn't played to.

#3.. Fact.. But that's kind of like saying " if the a$$hole in front of me hadn't slammed on his brakes while I rode his tail I wouldn't have hit him" ... It's all about the driver.

#4.. Fact, and all of them at least have it between the ears to the ump-teenth level as compared to Bray... The guy broke records, kudos...but I firmly believe a less physical and more mental guy could have done the same with the line and receivers Bray had.

#5.. F^<£ Mike Hamilton

#6.. And it's a good thing too.

#7.. Er...well no..not Alabama well, but we've recruited as well as Oregon, South Carolina, and for god sakes Vanderbilt ( who sits at Lowe's #7 spot, I guess 2 wins in 30 years instantly makes the better ).

#8.. What was embarrassing about it? UCLA just fired a B.B. coach after 3 consecutive huge seasons...tell me...other than a guy that A. Thinks too much of himself as compared to the reality (Dools), or a starving, confident winner who understands the value of being at the helm of a program that is ELITE in facilities, fan support, history, and tradition...who also understands the expectations and is willing to risk his one shot at that level..YOU tell me who UT should have pursued .... Realistically... Guys doing well at mid-majors aren't taking this job unless they've got balls of solid rock.

#9... Still driving that same old car.

Lowe isn't much better than Ol' jimmy....they're old school uninformed sensationalists.....I hope he chokes on a doughnut

People seem to think we were actually turned down by thirty coaches, when we actually may or may have not offered Charlie Strong.

Either way, we got the better of the two...imo. So, are we to infer that even espn thinks we had a shot at Grudes...only real blushing meterial I can guess at is that HE turned us down. No matter, this is bulletin board stuff for Butch and the gang! GBO!
