I don't want to beat the man when he is down -- on second thought I do.

I've only been a Vol fan since 1976 -- have we had a worse QB?

Why not pull him in the fourth, or come out of the locker room with a new QB to put some fire in the team.

LSU comes from behind to beat AU with the backup QB.

If you were Fulmer would you have pulled Crompton just for a change of pace?

Didn't Jeff Francis have some passing records? SEC Championships?

I tried to forget Joey Matthews -- until now.

May be go a a full time G-gun and then when we need a quick turnover, we go to the C-man. (pun intended)

Overstreet actually made a worthwhile comment. On 2 plays at the goal line, they left the center uncovered. Twice!! Crompton failed to notoice and run a QB sneak. He could've walked in.

Now that is dum-dumbness of humongous proportions!

My uncle has been refering to Crompton as Joey Matthews since before the season began. Guess his prediction came true.

The stats don't tell the whole story for Crompton. He makes bad reads, looks lost, has no leadership, ....

It bewilders me how he can miss these wide open receivers streaking downfield. Clawson called decent plays yesterday, JC just failed to execute them. When Crompton threw the int. in the endzone in the second half there were TWO receivers open on that play. One was available for the fade in the corner, and the other was ALL BY HIMSELF running along the goal line, wide open, with no Gator around for at least 8 yards.

I really miss Eric Ainge. He would have made those plays; hell, Rick Clausen would have made those plays if he could have thrown that far.

I watched him at Auburn 86 Bama 87 fold up like an accordion ..I guess maybe I was too harsh...flip flop him and Sanders..

Championships??none from 85-88..thats one of my barometers for QB's

At least Ainge got them to the SECCG twice

I don't think he ever goes to his second receiver. He locks on one at the snap and thats where he forces the ball. Look at any plays where he has a completion and you can find another receiver wide open.

I think that the coaches may be calling the right plays, but he can't pull the trigger.

A lot of the dropped balls go to him too. He throws a rocket to the TE 5 yards away.

You left out five Vol Quarterbacks all of which played in the pros, The inimitable Swamp Rat, Bobby Scott, Tony Robinson and Condredge Holloway. All of these should be on the list ahead of Clausen and Ainge. I think Allatoire (sp?) should be in there too.
I have only been a Vol Fan since 1961 (yes Tennessee was still running the Single Wing). I have watched a bevy of Tennessee games over the last 4 or 5 decades and I have to say that yesterday I observed the worst quarterback play since I coached the mighty "Saints" in Junior High Football at Smithville Jr. High School. Maybe my memory isn't perfect but I can not recall any of my quarterbacks in those 5-6 years ever fumbling (bumbling) a simple handoff and we ran the T and Wing T with its multiple belly rides and handoffs. (Rule #1 for Quarterbacks, hold on to the ball)
The coaches called a good game. Crompton blew or more properly bungled two touchdown drives. Whether it results from either lack of ability or concentration, that simply can not happen at the 1-A SEC football level.
I have watched him for 3 games this year, he is not a Division One quarterback and that scares me. If he is our best we are really in trouble for the next few years unless Nunes is the second coming of the Messiah.
Even if Crompton is the best we have, God Help Us. I think it is time to put him on the plank, let him gather splinters and start grooming the next generation. WE CAN"T LOOK ANY WORSE THIS YEAR!:banghead2:
I now live in Bowling Green, KY and I am glad it is the Kentucky and Alabama teams in the SEC that play the Hilltoppers in their inaugral year in Division 1. I would hate to see them to embarrass the Vols.

There are prolly worse QB's in history, but I can't think of a performace that crappy yesterday. Crompton was, well, just plain stupid in that game. Had a TD that was left on the board(when the DT's did not line up in thier gaps at the 2 yard line, and a huge gap was left in the defense).

As I said, it's not wrong to call your own number if you see an oppurtunity.

Jeremy Bates if given a little more time would possibly have held the honor of being the worse UT QB. Never forget his chance to finally get in a game and then he fell down under center!

Jaxvol, I agree 100 percent. Clawson is calling plays to get receivers open, and our receivers are getting open the majority of the time, but Crompton cannot complete the pass to anyone except the primary guy. This would explain why Crompton looked so good against LSU in 2006; Robert Meachem was the primary guy and was always getting open and burning DB's deep.

I said it after the UCLA game.....

Same number, same build, same enthusiasm, same boneheaded reads, same turnovers at THE most inopportune times.

JC is Rex Grossman.

Randy Sanders was, by far, the worst QB to ever start. Jeff O. (can't spell his name) sucked too. Rick Clausen, though gutsy, gets honorable mention.

I think that Crompton will be hard to beat as the worse ever, because he has a RB who may be the best ever (stat wise) at UT, good backup RB's, good WR's, and all day to throw.

He has good talent around him and can't even use it. How about a scramble on 3rd and 17 late in the game? Time management?
