The Fishing Thread

Spent the holiday weekend in the Adirondacks, the AuSable is as good of a trout run as you'll find east of the Rockies, and was catching nice lakers from my canoe 150' offshore from where we were staying on Mirror Lake. Hope to get another trip or 2 in before winter.

You live up in NY?

I pretty much only fish in the Smoky Mountains but I enjoy reading the lake reports. The fish I catch would be bait for some of the fish you all catch!

Lately I use a Tenkara rod (no reel, telescopic, very sensitive things) more than a traditional fly rod. It originated in Japan on small mountain streams which end up being somewhat similar to our own mountain streams.

Anyone have tips for favorite lures in Percy priest or center hill?

How have I never seen this thread? Or I've forgotten. Good fishing in northeast Georgia for the record.

The lake was FULL of boats today! We didn't get our boat out a single time last year. I hope that changes this year. I LOVE fishing!

Rivers were very fishable the past few weeks despite all the snow melt, but it's absolutely pouring for the next few days, probably take a week to settle back down to where it's even worth going out.

anyone got any updates for Northeast TN? Or Upper East Tennessee as it should rightfully be called?

I caught a few nice 2-3 lb bass yesterday. My daughter caught around 20 crappie, I got 9-10.

Caught a half dozen wild brookies with parachute ants this morning, we should have a big mayfly hatch here in a week so I plan on rocking and rolling then.

Florida in two weeks. Any surf fishing experts? Tips? I don't usually surf fish.

Why not go deep sea fishing? It would probably cost less than trying to properly gather the gear for surf fishing. If, for example, you go to Destin, the Gulf Stream comes so close to the coast you can get there on a half-day cruise for probably about 35 bucks on a party boat. The fish in the Gulf Stream can be really nice. They also provide the gear for you. One thing, though - if you haven't been to sea, you don't really know if you get seasick. Every time I've been, there's been someone hanging their head over the stern vomiting the whole trip. Dramamine can help.

I've been on the party boats in Panama, there's only two of us who fish, so to expensive to go private. We've caught fish, but nothing much. I've never tried it in destin, but may need to. We fish the piers every year, and surprisingly do good. I'd really like to fish the bay. Thanks.

You can catch some great fish off the piers, as well as from shore. I've never fished the bay, but sounds fun to me. And if it isn't dead-calm at sea, chances are they won't go all the way to the Gulf Stream on the party boats. Last two times I've been, we couldn't, and the only things that people were bringing up were catfish and ruby red lips. When that happens, I usually use the one I brought up as bait and hook them in the lower abdomen near the tail - then sit down and enjoy my beer to wait for the big one, lol. Not much point in leaving your line in a pool of little fish..
Good luck with the surf fishing.
