Yeah most pros this summer, including KVD, were throwing crankbaits on them.

Vandam is ridiculous. He could probably catch a fish out of a puddle. Kentucky lake is a bass factory, easily one of the best in the nation. Guntersville is my personal favorite though. Grass and bass and more grass and bass, it's heaven sometimes.

Yeah KVD is. I worked the tournament last year and got to meet and talk with him, he casts the 6xd crankbaits 70 yards, he says. I'm a big Iaconelli fan so meeting him was great, one of the nicest pros on tour.

I have respect for those guys. If you've watched them, then you know how taxing that is to do for 8 hours and 3 days in a row. I'm beat after a one day tournament, but 3 days in a row i think my arms would fall off.

Oh I have tons of respect for them. That is my number one goal, I'm going to do college bass fishing next year. Also one thing I found funny, one of the oriental fisherman, don't remember which, speaks very little english and has one normal depth finder and one in their language at both the console and bow.

I got to meet KVD at the July Daytona race last year. Me and my buddy were there on pit road just before the race was to start and noticed the pace car had an "honorary pace car driver" and Kevin Vandam was written on the side. We waited there because we knew he would show up and got to shake his hand and talk briefly.

Anyway, I'll be headed down to Eufaula a week from Friday. Anyone have an tips for that lake? I've never fished it before.

Yeah I've fished in a few tournaments here and there with family. I'm glad that college bass fishing is getting so popular just as I'm getting ready to enter. Also, I am probably going to enter a two man high school bass fishing tournament hosted by Murray State next month, 1st place team wins $10,000 dollars in scholarships to Murray.

VolSkin - it was about 20 minutes a fish. We were using 17lb test with a 50 lb leader. Cut bait. The first one hit and I set the hook then handed to rod to my 11 year old boy. those fish peeled line like I had never seen before. My boy was hanging on as best he could and I was coaching him through how to fight it out when I looked up and another rod was double. I ran and set the hook on the second one and me and the boy fought two of these guys at the same time. I couldn't believe it - a large crowed gathered around and watched. After about 15 minutes, both fish were about 40 yards offshore and they just turned sideways and stayed there. We could see their backs sticking out of the water. My boy got his in first and I had him take mine and hang on. I got his unhooked, showed it around for minute then let it go. Then I got the other one in and told my boy to run get my buddy to see. He got back with my buddy - I showed the fish and let him go before we could fetch a camera. I feared that they would die so I just let them go with the memory in my head. About an hour later we caught the one in the picture - I set the hook and handed the rod to my buddy. So three of us got to fight a fish. A lady that watched told us that her husband had been fishing on that beach for twenty years and had never caught anything near the size of those fish.

Thats a very nice day of fishing, I fished tybee before but was skunked and figured it was because it was August. I think I used squid. March is a great time to surf fish.

I have a vacation/surf fishing trip planned in OBX during early June. Looking forward to it. Surf fishing is by far my favorite

Well the season has officially began. I put in at Old Hickory, firt thing i did was run over a stump setting right on the channel ledge. I didn't bust the lower unit thank god. Water was still all jacked up, chocolate milk again.

I go to lower my trolling motor and for some reason i went brain dead and grabbed the top cover of the motor and it snapped like a twig. So no way to control the boat, i should have stayed home. Bad day, but typical of early season, anything thing that could go wrong usually does. You got to love it. So now i'm waiting on the new cover should be in by Tuesday or Wednesday.

VolSkin - Excellent. Let me pose this question. I really enjoy night surf fishing - ie - drinking beer, listening to music and maybe catching something. Here's the question: when you go out to cast at night, how deep do you wade out before your mind won't let you go farther? I'm at waste deep tops depending upon the amount of booze. I guess there is a point of diminishing returns - an apex of the surf-fishing bell curve I guess - where the risk starts to outweigh the potential reward.

I've seen Jaws one too many times to even give night surf fishing a thought. :eek:hmy:

I live on Barton"s Creek on Old Hickory and the water has been so screwed up ( too clear and cold or too muddy ) nobody said it would be easy The lake needs the grass to return but I don't see it I hear they are hitting on Center Hill but after this weather today it will be tough Please post your fishing trips because I need all the info I can get

After the floods of last year the lake really hasn't been the same. As of right now it's all jacked up and will remain that way until it decides to stop dumping tons of rain all at once. A little rain here and there is ok , but it's going to stay pretty messed up until it stabilizes.

I was going to run some spots on Priest this weekend but now my trolling motor is jacked up and the weather sucks. Looking like towards the end of next week before i can actually get back out. :ermm:

Watching guys catching sandbar sharks on rod and reel and tagging them, looks like it'd be a fun night.

Only been night surf fishing once. I walked out maybe up to my knees, there was a lot of seaweed and it kept touching me and freaking me out. Eventually I had to cut the line because too much seaweed and a storm came up so we got off the beach

You guys have it easy, no time to drink or hang out up here. You're lucky if you can light and smoke half a cigarette before you're drenched again.

It's been pretty wet here lately also, it's kept the water muddy, bad fishing, cold muddy water=sucks.
