That's the reason I've never owned a 100% glass rod too.

I especially recommend this for Rattle Traps.

I'd say if it doesn't affect the bait's action this probably helps more with not losing fish than having a glass or graphite rod. You really need clear water to watch the action or go to a 8 foot deep swimming pool. Go through your baits and find the ones that are affected and the ones that are not.

I haven't found too many that are affected by it so i use them a lot.

Talking about it has made me want to get on the lake now. Man i should have left this thread alone this morning. Water still all jacked up and i know the fishing would be less than ideal but for some reason that hasn't made me want to do it any less.. I think i'm addicted, lol.

Tomorrow is going to be nice, i may get out late in the evening after everything has warmed up a bit. It's been cold, i expect a slow bite. Maybe Priest isn't as screwed up as Old Hickory, at least i hope not or it will be a short trip.

I'm just going to see this as a chance to get the boat out. I know the bite is going to suck. It's either going to be on a jig or a crank.

Does anyone have any recommendations on a quaility cheap rod that will last? I am hitting up bass pro shops this weekend to pick up some gear for my newly acquired 18.5 foot bowrider. (life jackets, bumpers, etc) I want two rods that I can play with when we anchor in a cove. Nothing fancy, just something that wont crap out on me and under $100

do they do a rod and reel combo? Am I being bush league asking that question? I only have surf rods so I am a bit clueless
Spinning or Baitcast? Either one i'd go with the BPS brand. They also will have some combo's setting right out in the middle of the store, some lower grade diawa's and a couple other brands. Just about anything you get there won't be that bad. There are several setups under a $100.

Serious question, what the hell happen to Zebco? They use to make a solid reel. Now it is just trash from the last few I have bought.

Ran Old Hickory for a while yesterday. Water is clearing a little now. Ran Spence creek, ran both forks of Station camp and Cages bend. If anyone is thinking of getting a Fury Prop for their boat, do it is all i have to say. Those things are as good as advertised. Not only does it give my boat more lift it's a couple MPH faster too. Better yet they have a exhaust plug system you can play with for better hole shots.

As far as the fishing goes, it's slow. I did find one pocket in the back of Spence that had 57 degree water, that was as warm as i found it. Now that's surface temp so at 5 foot deep it will be about 5 degrees cooler.

For the day one monster of a drum hit my rattle trap i'd say 15, 20 pounds easy. I caught a couple of pale looking Male bass in the back of Spence. They looked like they had just made the move from deeper water. That was pretty much it other than running and checking water temp in some of my better spots. Won't be long now guys. I'd say if the weather holds steady the next few weeks are going to be good. Seeing plenty of turtles and shad, signs of life finally and a sign that the water temps are getting right.

Hey guys, Well Norris I still dirty and raising very fast. The crankbait bite is getting tough because they have not moved up yet. With the weather going into the 70's this week it should start getting better. Its only taking about 10 to 12lbs to win in the local tournaments. Good luck to everyone.

Full moon Saturday, look for some early bedding fish right now. If you get into a cove and it's 55 surface slow down and fish it thoroughly, make sure it's out of the wind and protected. Fish three days leading up to the full moon and the 3 days after. The April moon this year will be the very best shallow water fishing of the year.

I talk to several local guides in the area. Brian Carper and Jim Duckworth are both reporting Priest is coming on strong right now. Good time to get out and enjoy the bite. Weather is going to be great so go enjoy it!

After this game, it's on, i found a little something the other day and i think it's going to be lively this afternoon.

Whats up with the "Super Moon"? Will that help with the fishing?

I bought a Pflueger Trion gx7 at Bass Pro Shops last weekend. Guy behind the counter recommended it and I looked up the reviews and they were all positive. It was like $60

The wife picked up the Bass Pro Shop Lady Lite Rod and Reel, because it was pink. I played around with it for a minute and it seems decent. What the hey, it was only $30
