The glorious lives of the dinks!

My wife and I have been living the DINK life for a while now, but we have a kid on the way... and we don't want to raise them in Baton Rouge... so in our looking for a good place to relocate Knoxville rose to the top of the list.

I can't start threads yet... so any thoughts from the former DINKs in Knoxville? Is it a good place to raise a family? It seems like it from what I can tell... other than all the orange. :)

Welcome to the board, Knoxville seems to be a great place to raise a family. Just don't go telling everyone.

Ha, I won't spread the word too far... and absolutely not to anyone in Alabama, Mississippi, or Florida.
Of course most on this board are a little biased, but I find Knoxville to be a terrific place to raise a family. Anywhere in Williamson County (south of Nashville) is great as well.

I would imagine there is some bias for sure. I really enjoy a LOT about Baton Rouge and am fairly biased toward it, but one thing is certain, this isn't a great place to raise a family. Our main goal was to find a place where we could live in the city (and not way out in the burbs like we would have to do in Houston or Dallas) and still send our kid to public school and feel good about it. Public schools in BR suck. Big time.

If schools are your primary concern, Williamson County has the best in the state. Someone more in tune with the Knoxville school districts can chime in there, but I think Hardin Valley has become the place to go around there.

They are definitely a large concern, but I don't think we HAVE to have the absolute best public schools possible because I feel like so much of a kid's education is going to come at home as well. We just don't want a dumpster fire of public education like we have here in Louisiana.

Maryville imo....outside the city.

The wife left town for a friend's birthday weekend. I'm just hanging out with my dog, eating pizza, drinking beer, burning one for the homeys, and the best part....I got two flat screens set up next to each other so I can watch sports and play video games simultaneously until my eyes fall out of their sockets.

Wait?! Married adult men who have seen a vagina still play video games? 😬

I like your style. I'm about to light one up and play Zelda on the re-released Super Nintendo I just got. Only difference is the wife is here too and likes to watch me play.

We want kids, we're trying to have kids, but we are not very good at making them. We lost one last Spring and it has really impacted our marriage, so we are having fun traveling and if it works it works.

I understand, it's hard. We spent years and a lot of money trying and finally got lucky. It was worth it of course but it does beat you down. But don't forget the adoption option: there are a lot of sweet babies out there who need some loving parents.

No problem. I give my brother and brother in law grief about their game playing too. All out of fun of course but it’s just not my thing.

No adults played video games when we were kids and I fully expected our generation to be the same way. I am really off and on with them. Sometimes I'll go a whole year without them, but I've played a lot this year.

I owned an Xbox when they first came out years ago because I wanted to play red dead revolver. Played it two weeks..... never got back on it. Sold it to my brother in law. It has never been my thing. I’m more tools, workshop, fun and outdoors equipment kind of guy now. Cigars and pipes are high on my list too.

I'll knock out some projects in my workshop too, but after tiling all week it can be nice to just lay out on the couch with some mindless entertainment sometimes.
