Dave Pelz has some great statistical analysis on putting from different lengths. It's unreal how much the percentages drop off once you get outside of about 4-6 feet.

Truly. I hit the ball incredibly last weekend and shot 75 . . . with 4 3 putts. I feel your pain.
it's amazing how rarely my ball striking and putting are in sync. guess it actually helps to putt well on poor striking days, but going low is about bringing them both on the same day.

This is a perfect analysis, and may be why I have never gone below par.:eek:hmy:

well, i played 45 holes this weekend and had exactly 3 pars. the first day, ball striking was awful, putting was actually ok.

2nd day, ball striking was much better, was crap around and on the greens.

but neither day was particularly good.....but 1st time out all year.........better days to come. and i hit enough good shots to get me to go back......that's all i can ask for.

i love this game.

Great thing about golf. Even on my worst days, one great feeling shot keeps the desire going.

that's usually how it goes for me unfortunately.......but, it is enough.

Signs you are having trouble with your irons:

Shot an 89 today (par 71 so bogey golf). 4 pars; 10 bogey's; 4 doubles.

Driver - 11/14 fairways hit; 220-255; only one miss that required a punch-out.

Putter - 31 putts (3 putt on the last green:banghead2:)

3 OB's with iron in hand (after drive); all three from fairway.

A grand total of 2 GIR's!

It was beautiful weather though...:whistling:

It's funny how that works. My first round this year I was terrible all day, but stuck a 150 yarder 3 feet from the pin and couldn't wait to play again. (Even after I MISSED the 3 foot birdie putt :furious3: )

:eek:lol: funny how the definition of one's bad day would be a good day for others.....:cray:

I'm okay with the score but disappointed with how bad my irons were. My driving and putting were good enough for a low-80's round.

Continually missing the green with second shots from the fairway (including several where I was 120 or less out) just plain sucks!

Truly . . . That's why I try to make it a point to never throw stuff or act like an idiot on a golf course. Unless you are playing in a tournament or something, the object is to have a good time with your friends. I've had plenty of terrible rounds that I deemed a success because I was able to needle my playing partners nearly to the point of tears. :)

While beating them into submission.

the grass is green, the sky is blue and the beer is cold, i always say.....

Yeah . . . now that I think about it, it does sort of help my Pollyanna attitude that I usually can play like crap and still beat most of the guys I play with. :p

though i have to admit i've had my share of "moments" on the course, and they, in and of themselves, were as entertaining as anything we did on the golf course that day.....

We had a playing group about 2 years ago that was brutal! No sympathy and equal opportunity bashing. I miss those guys...:)

I know it's off the topic, but anyone hit the new Callaway X forged irons?

I've hit 1 shot with a 5 iron. I hit it OK, but it wasn't enough to tell much. It would be tough to make me part with the trusty X-16's.
