Played in a Member/Guest on Friday. Lipped out from 170 yards on a Par 3 and won closest to the pin . . . thus reinforcing my belief that I'm never making an Ace.

They are rare indeed, I've been playing for 12 years now and I've had 2 aces and witnessed 4 others.

That's insane to have been around 6 aces in 12 years. I've been playing about 30 years including about 10 years of what I would consider hardcore competitive golf and I've never witnessed one much less had one myself.

It really is. I miss the days when it seemed like everybody putted with a Bullseye, a Ping Anser or the Wilson 8802.

Bet his has some of that crap toned down. He has always played something simple.

I play on average about 120 rounds per year. But what's weird is all 4 of the ones I have witnessed the guys are over 50 yrs old

I've witnessed 2 in the last 10-12 years
One in AZ (Kartsen course) with my Brother in Law
One in TX with a co worker...We cut out of work early to play, and he was stressed out about making it, and telling the group back in the office, since we had left work early

Not only have I never seen one, I don't think I have ever seen anybody get within 3 feet.

The insult to injury continues. I found out today that my prize for closest to the pin was . . . a belt?? Not a gift certificate. Not a dozen balls. A stinkin' green belt!?

Sweet. Put it with your peach seersucker draws and you're in business.

I won one last year that consisted of four tickets to a local theater group. At least the belt has some purpose.

It was for straightest drive, BTW. You would think the one time in my life that I am closest to the center of the fairway that the prize would be more dramatic, you know, like sex.

I've been playing 15 years, off and on, and have only witnessed one. (not mine, sadly.) Gotten within an inch, literally, and two or three more inside a foot. (one last week, damn it.) It's luck and chaos theory in action. Kind of like how if you win the lottery, and play it again next week, you're just as likely to win it again as anyone else. You've never had one after 30 years of playing, yet you're liable to reel off 2 or 3 in the next year.

like the positive attitude, every par 3, the thought goes through my head before I start my swing, that this could be my first hole in one

i've been playing for about a year and i'm happy when i hit the green on a par 3. i've been inside 2 feet once i believe and hit one that hit within a foot of the hole but didn't sit and rolled off the green
