The Golf Thread

When I was in college, we played a tournament there. It rained during the 1st round and made the course feel like it was playing 7,500 yards. I shot 80 and was pissed until I noticed that I was actually at the bottom of the leaderboard.

Did you word that last sentence correctly. I would be even more pissed if I was at the bottom of the board, or did they only post the top few?

There was a main scoreboard with everybody posted and then a leaderboard showing just the top 20 or so. I expected a first round 80 to be somewhere in the back of the pack and it turned out to be something like 15th place in a field of about 50.

People sometimes have a mistaken notion that a 5 handicapper is at the course for a different reason than a 25 handicapper. Except for the occasional jerk that thinks he needs to grind for 4 hours as if he's qualifying for the US Open, people just want to have a good time.

The only thing that ruins a day at the golf course is the hacker that thinks he is on the PGA tour. They could not break 100 if they got a mulligan on every hole but they mark two foot putts and stand back and wait their turn to miss it again. Do not get me started about the 5 practice swing guy, before EVERY shot or the guys that will not walk 30 feet with his club and be ready to hit his ball WHILE his cart partner is taking those 5 practice swings.

golf takes all of that away from you anyway.

might as well play with somebody you can learn from.

I misunderstood your post.

I was just saying that while others may not care if I suck, I do care. I will never be a scratch golfer, but I would like to get where I can shoot in the 70s on a good day.

Exactly. If we could get rid of the Padraigs, Westwoods and Fishers, at least the example those idiots set would go away.

If people would reason through the mental side of putting and combine that with their likelihood of getting line and pace right, they'd stop all the bullshiz shenanigans about 10 minute green reads.

There's a guy who plays at my club who stalks putts like Tiger.

Dude couldn't putt his way out of a paper bag if his life depended on it.

I play with a lot of guys that can not break 100 and have a blast.
As long as you keep up with the group in front of you, it's all good.

I take the same mindset I did when I pitched, as well as what I tell my pitchers to do, when it comes to golf. The less time I'm over the ball, the better my chances of not screwing up.

most would putt better if they read the greens on the walk up to the green and just stuck with that. Squatting behind the ball and stalking both sides destroys many a putt. Makes me sick to watch guys do the five minute stalk on their home course on a putt that they absolutely know.

I fracking hate, hate, hate slow play.

I've been known to send a ball or two into the group ahead to announce my displeasure.

The irony, of course, is that the 25-handicapper will always play better if he cuts out the 3-minute pre-shot routine and the 8 practice swings, and just lets it rip. The easiest way to play faster is to play better.

Broke my driver yesterday. Pushed my drive and as it's in flight I slam the clubhead in disgust and it cracked in half. Had to play the back nine with only a 3-wood.

Im not the biggest fan of the 460cc heads.

Super Deep TP is 460 but looks smaller because the mass is in the depth. Stock Stick is an Aldila RIP shaft that is stout. Looks smaller than my 510 TP.
