The Golf Thread

Finally had a chance to get out today. Shot an 84, need some work on the short game after the winter, but ball striking was good.

Anyone want to get a group and play? I like Centennial, and Willow Creek. I'd play about anywhere though. Do any of you guys on here play golf with other VN posters?

Patrick Cantlay needs to shorten the pre shot routine. Having flashbacks to Sergio. Hit the ball dude.

I'm hopefully trying out a barely used PXG 0811 driver very soon. It looks and feel great, but work and nasty weather have prevented me from getting to the driving range. Anyone play a PXG driver?

If the loft and shaft fit you, it will be like any other driver that fits you, and you will hit it as well as you are capable of hitting a driver. If not, it will be like any other driver that doesn't fit you, and you won't hit it as well as you are capable. It's basically that simple.

Based on testing, they are very accurate, but shorter than most of the others. Rogue, M3, and surprisingly the Cobra F8 are really good. The PXG irons are forgiving and long. Price tag is ridiculous. Taylormade P790's are just as good and less $$$$.

Agree.. I have no doubt they’re good clubs. Just the price tag is laughable (even Miura is a good bit cheaper), and not enough pros are playing them yet for any appeal whatsoever. If they start sponsoring big name guys, the clubs could go the way of Scotty Cameron. If not, the whole company could go under IMO.

The golf club factors that affect accuracy are shaft length and moment of inertia. The way to increase the moment of inertia is through positioning of the center of gravity in the clubhead. The further back that the center of gravity is, the less the clubhead will twist on an off center hit.

Usually, when you move the c.o.g. back, you also create more spin and slightly less distance. That is, unless you don't create enough spin already, and are hitting diving knuckleballs. In that case, a driver with more spin will go further. It all depends on your clubhead speed, type of ball, and angle of attack. The new Ping 400 has a very deep c.o.g. and is said to be somewhat shorter but more accurate.

it's true. I switched to a G400 about a month ago. I hit it basically the same distance as my old TM, but the dispersion numbers on the launch monitor when I tested it were crazy good.

Anyone played Knox Muni in the last couple of weeks?

I played there yesterday and I’ve never seen the course in such poor condition, looks like it hasn’t been mowed in two weeks. The rough was so thick your ball was lost if you didn’t hit fairway.

Probably because of all the rain.

Probably because of all the rain.

I’m sure it was, but I played Patriot Hills the day before and it was in great shape. I think Muni was just trying to save on the landscaping expense.

Was pretty rough to pay $28 per person for twilight, cart path only, and those conditions. I would have rather played Whittle Springs at that point.
