US Open is a grand example
Scott Gregory from England won the British Amateur, played on the Walker Cup team, turned pro shortly afterward, and was low qualifier in England to get a birth in this U.S. Open.
He was rewarded with a first round 92. He made no birdies and only 3 pars. Also, 10 bogeys, 3 doubles, and 2 triples. This is no weekend hacker. He is probably capable of shooting mid-60's at any course in Knoxville. That is how incredibly hard that Shinnecock is today.

It gave me hope... But in reality I'd probably score a 200 there

What a freak show. Brought to us annually by the USGA. While its golf, it’s more like professional clown show. Some of the conditions remind me of a rural small town mom & pop run muni whose rough mower has been broke for 3 years with no money in the budget to fix it.

I like it. Forces the world's best to be at their best.

It's my least favorite major. I've never gotten what the USGA thinks they're accomplishing with insanely hard setups.
With several of the setups they have had over the years, I told someone years ago that I have a simpler , quicker way of determining a U.S. Open winner. Take the players and torture them or waterboard them for 3 and 1/2 days, then go let them play 9 to get a champion.

No way.....Perfect conditions.

Only four times since 2000 has the winning score been over par. Relax

If the wind is going to blow like that, they really need to grow a little grass around the greens. There are a lot of pretty darn good shots ending up 30 yards down the hill.

Golf is not supposed to be like dart throwing. Par is supposed to be a great score. Watching guys play wet, perfectly manicured courses each week sucks. 300 yrd carry with a cut driver doesn't roll into the rough. In the Open, you actually have to hit straight drives. Iron shots have to be hit from a fairway to have a chance to stay on the green. What a concept.......

OK Golfers, my wife is wanting to learn how to play golf. There is a guy, Des Mahoney, that gives lessons at Centennial Golf Course in Oak Ridge. He charges $340 for four 50 minute sessions.

Thought/Recommendations/Pointers

TIA

Relax? Lol. It's just an opinion. I just don't like high scores induced by severe setups. I'd rather see guys able to play well and make birdies rather than constantly just trying to survive.

Phil. I thought that was awesome.

I thought it was a wise tactical decision. He took a two stroke penalty to prevent continued unknown number of strokes on that hole, especially considering his horrible putting all day. These announcers can't figure that out. They'd rather start comparing him to John Daly.

Yeah I think they're making too big a deal about it.
