The Golf Thread

3? I would say Richland, Belle Meade, Hillwood, Nashville Golf and A/C(formerly Crockett Springs), Legends....maybe you didn't count the last two because they're not actually in Nashville. Nashville Golf and A/C is my fav
NGAC and Legends are good golf courses, but not really good. Always subject to opinion, but Richland, BelleMeade, and I included The Golf Club.

Eh ... Brooks is kinda out there at times, he doesn't convey his thoughts very well. I can sort of see what he's getting at, but being a gentlemans game is what separates golf from all other sports. I mean I have no problem with growing the game to more people, but I don't want to be on the course with some joker wearing his jorts, Pink Floyd T shirt and Timberland hikers either. There is line to be drawn there IMO and I don't care who considers it to be uppity.

It’s an inarticulate way of saying public golf is not what it should be and it’s tough to grow the game when there’s limited access and exposure.

Eh ... maybe in places and certain circles, but public golf in my area and most areas I frequent is very accessible and is thriving. You consider public golf to be in decline and in need of a tune up ? Is public golf not where it needs to be in your area ? It's growing rapidly most places I see.

It’s horrible here. It’s ok in a few places in the Atlanta area and the state park courses are decent, but it’s pretty much private club or bust everywhere else.

That's a shame. What part of GA are you residing in ? so I'll know not to bring my sticks if I'm traveling through there. I am within an hours drive of 18 public golf courses, 13 of which are very playable, 8 of those which I consider to be very solid courses, 3 are outstanding. 4 of those 18 course were members only for years until recently when they opened up to the public. Country Club membership is declining here as the public courses are becoming better and better.

About 75 miles south of Atlanta. The local munis are pretty bad. One or two semi-privates are ok. But you have to drive 45 minutes to get to what I’d call a good public course... and I’m just a few miles outside a metro area with a population of 200,000+

That's a bummer, and frankly appalling. I'm pretty shocked at that ratio. Isn't there enough golf interest close by to support more public courses ?

Metro Atl is lacking in public courses. Very true. Sad.

I would be seriously tempted to purchase a condo retreat at St Simons or Jekyll.

It's beautiful here today and just dry enough to break out the sticks.

2 iron? That's old school. I like it. I carried a 1 blade iron for maybe 25 years, and I could hit it. But, that was then, and this is now. Not many 70 year olds carry a 1 iron. I don't know if anybody makes one. I know they make low lofted "driving irons', but they aren't blade 1 irons.

The Ping Eye 1 iron was a rocket launcher!

Yes it is pretty old school I guess, but honestly my 2 iron is the best club in my bag, it's my go to if I absolutely have to hit a fairway and my driver really isn't that much longer in yardage for me anyway. I play an old school type of game with old school type clubs (forged blades) not very long off the tee, but hit fairways and greens and chip and putt it pretty well when I don't.

I got out yesterday for the first time in a couple months as well. Hit the ball great just a couple costly miscues along with a rusty short game. Shot 82 with a triple and two doubles while having 11 legit shots at birdie or better, only made 1. Was on the back fringe on a par 5 in 2 and 3 putted (I know technically 2 putt) for par from 30 feet.

Now I know why @peaygolf is a golf pro at the club.

Got out again today myself, it was another beautiful 60 degree day here, but rain coming back in the forecast for 6 straight days starting tomorrow. Play while you can I say. The dormant Bermuda will start coming back and green up pretty soon.
