The Golf Thread

When it gets hot, I just set my tee times early in the day when the heat isn't as taxing.

And the beer I have for breakfast isn't bad....:good!:

haha, well-we walked for 10 bucks because the little brother in law was broke. The bugger still beat me by one stroke.

in july and august, you won't catch me playing 18 without a cart.

9 i can handle walking, but 18 is asking for it.

Since this thread has been idle for a while, here's a golf related issue that I'll share. On my honeymoon, Hawaiian Air absolutely destroyed my travel case. It looked like the travel cover got caught in a conveyor and was ripped to shreds, breaking two straps and punching holes all the way through so that you could stick your finger in them and touch the golf bag inside. After about 5 phone calls and a fax, they are mailing me a check for the full value of the travel cover, but the amazing thing to me is that the clubs and the golf bag inside were almost completely protected (there is a very minor scratch on the bag.)

So to sum up, 1)the Samsonite gorilla is still alive and kicking, 2) even soft travel cases do a really good job of protecting clubs, and 3) if you are willing to push for long enough, airlines will make it right if they break something.

This is the cover I used:

So I just got off the phone with a buddy of mine that said he had made plans with some mutual friends for a round tomorrow. He tells me that he got a call from one of the guys and says he has been "bumped" from the foursome for another mutual friend. I asked him why and he says "dunno, guess they wanted to play with this other guy". Why is this pissing me off? I have always enjoyed golf as the gentleman's game.

If you read this, shame on you. You should know better...... :neener2:

with the flights I did last year and all the travel my golf bag got (even though it wound up being extremely limited play), my Bag Boy T-6 held up remarkably well and more importantly protected my babies...

are you replacing it with a club glove?

It's definitely best to buy a good travel case.

When I went to Hawaii I didn't want to hassle with golf clubs so I just rented a set when I got there . . . then proceeded to shoot an obscenely low number. To make a long story short, I got the specs off the irons and ended up buying a set when I got back home. It would have been cheaper if I had just bought a good travel case and taken my own clubs to Hawaii.

I saw the rental clubs they had at two of the courses we played, and it was top notch equipment.

It's unreal over there. I went to the course expecting to play a set of 1980s Wilson Staffs or something of the like and instead it was that year's newest Callaway equipment.

At Hualalai they offered your choice of brand new Callaway cavity back or Mizuno player's irons.

I'm not sure how frequently those blades get used, though. The guys at the turn seemed genuinely surprised when the wife made the turn at 38. I got the impression that it doesn't happen that often.

Back to the drawing board...

I'm heading down to the swing doctor today. As of this weekend, I've come down with another case of the over-the-tops. My dream of finally taking a lesson while playing well will have to wait a little while longer...

Just opened the mail, and I'm happy to say that, although I had to jump through a few hoops to get it, Hawaiian Air made good on the bag. They sent me full replacement cost, plus about $20 to get it shipped to me and to cover the scratch to the bag. I am now happy with them. :good!:
