Can we finally quit calling Pearl a "motivator"??

i've read so many posts tonight from people observing that this team plays with such minimal effort... that they are lazy... they are undisciplined... they are inconsistent.

since the great motivator has said he doesn't want to coach effort... well... it certainly looks that way.

granted, we've had a lot of misfortune this year. but there is NEVER an excuse for lack of effort and focus. when this team goes all out and gives 110% and plays to their strengths... they can hang with just about anyone.

Just one question for you, Why are you a fan of the Vols? I looked back at some of your post and its sad you say the same thing everytime you post. So why keep watching.

It is hard to motivate better shooting or quicker feet.
They don't run their offense very well or distribute the ball but that doesn't come from lack of motivation either.

The one, two, three positions shoot the ball poorly and if Chism is the 4, then they don't get much from the 5 either.

Successful basketball teams need to be able to get scoring from at least 3 different positions. Outside of Chism and occasionally Hopson we have no one who scores consistently.

I'll agree that you can't motivate shooting and effort...

But, that team looked flat last night. But I don't blame Pearl for that. You're playing your in-state rival - you shouldn't need a coach motivating you to get up for that game. If you can't get fired up to play somebody when you've got their fans screaming at you, calling you every name in the book, then you need help.

You need motivation from coaches when you're playing lower end teams and there isn't energy in the building. That wasn't the case last night. Shame on the players for that effort.

There is only one aspect of a game that the players can control - that is the effort that they play with. They may have a bad shooting night, nothing is falling, etc. but you can still control your effort you play with and carry that to the defensive end of the court. They didn't last night, AT ALL.

Why do some fans bash Pearl after every loss If we beat Kentucky Saturday then you'll be singing his praises. You have to win and lose with your team and coach.

So "fans" can't be critical or point out flaws of their coach?

God, I'm so tired of hearing this line. Why is it that every loss is some opportunity to wrench hands and talk about how terrible everything is? This place is so reactionary and irrational.

Well put.

Why don't you answer the question? I actually like CBP, and he has done a great job marketing the university. However, unless changes are made fundamentally, I think we have seen the apex of our program under Pearl.

Wins with this team also can point out flaws.

It's not just after the losses.

The number one fundamental flaw with the Pearl lovers is the same as the one with the Fulmerites....

Don't question anything. All is well.

Sure they can. However, lets be realists. This is the best that we have ever been in basketball in the history of our university with Pearl. We have never gone undefeated in a season and probably won't ever. We will lose games occasionally. Every team does. To get on here and bash Pearl every time we lose a game is ridiculous.

Like I have said before, I like Pearl. That being said, I also like to see improvement, and would like to see us win an SEC title. Another would be getting past the Sweet 16.

No, if this team beats UK, I will probably die from shock.

Nothing surprises me with this team. If we can beat Kansas we can beat Kentucky.

Blah blah blah, you're like a freaking broken record. Who said questioning and talking constructively wasn't o.k?

It's the posters such as yourself who take way too much joy in a loss and come on here and trash everything and everyone that make this place what it is.

Many on here think it's a sin to question Bruce.

I have slammed this team and praised this team.

This team is mediocre at best and I have said as much as that before.

But that effort last night was a disgrace to the Orange Jersey. A damned disgrace.

You slam this team and coach 90% of your posts and you know it. 18-5 is mediocre? Come on man, I know they lost last night but I've seen enough of this team this year to say that they're a pretty darn good team. You win some you lose some. Why the need to over-react each loss? A disgrace? Honestly, a disgrace? Do you think if you walked up to Wayne Chism and said you guys were a disgrace to the Tennessee uniform last night that he would agree with you? A disgrace?

This team is mediocre.

A poster asked last night, what's the best win in SEC that UT has now?

Also, this team's effort is a disgrace. I don't know if it's entitlement or just flat out indifference, but either way it needs to be adjusted, and adjusted quickly.
