No, you're the one who tried to fluff last year's finish by acting as if the fact they came played better in their last 10 games than a team that got its coach fired and three other dreck NIT squads was meaningful. I simply pointed out the idiocy of that exercise.

My point was that even though they didn't finish as strong as the prior 3 years (which of course you choose to ignore) they still finished stronger than the rest except Vandy and finished strong enough to win the East that year. They won 3 of their last 4 and those 3 in a row were huge at the time because it was still anybody's ballgame.

LSU clinched the SEC by about Valentine's Day last year.

I'm aware of that. Was referring to the East but you know that.

Keep focusing on the 1 year.
The fact you are babbling about "winning the East" proves you're nothing more than one of the myriad of people here whose only purpose is to fluff Pearl and prattle on about how bad things would be if he ever left.

Give it up, man. Tennessee hasn't finished that strong in any year. Lofton's junior year, they won several towards the end and proceeded to blow the first round of the SEC tourney. They didn't finish that strong Lofton's senior year and they blew a game in the tourney again. Bruce struggles toward the end of the year and in the tourney. Trying to pretend like that's not the case makes you look stupid.

You better be careful. He'll pull out Pearl's sterling SEC and NCAA Tournament records. Nothing says "strong finish" like 8-8.

Not at all, never said he was the perfect coach. Never said he didn't have flaws. As usual however, you have lumped people into one of 2 groups. If there are those who don't follow you and your blind hatred then they must be a Pearlophile. Just doesn't work that way.

u have been put in your place IA VOL. get off my thread you hijacker.

Blah blah blah, you're like a freaking broken record. Who said questioning and talking constructively wasn't o.k?

It's the posters such as yourself who take way too much joy in a loss and come on here and trash everything and everyone that make this place what it is.

joy in a loss? i'm frustrated with pearl. when our team plays so pathetically game after game (even in a win, LSU) u get frustrated. i had hopes the team who played KU would show up at vandy. instead we got the team who played SoCal.

for the record, i was a huge pearl fan the first 3 years. then i was dismayed by the way we finished off the season after beating Memphis and getting the #1 ranking. we looked terrible in the sec tourney and ncaa tourney. the last 2 years have shown very little change and improvement by our team. without Lofton and Jajuan hitting huge 3's we generally look terrible on offense. and for the 2nd year in a row... pearl can get these guys to press and force turnovers and easy buckets (which is supposed to be his thing). the inconsistencies, the laziness, the lack of discipline, the lack of effort... it's just inexcusable. ESPECIALLY, when we've seen what this team can do when it goes all out for 40 minutes. i thought pearl was gonna be the guy to take us to the promise land... i've seen the writing on the wall now for 2 years and i'm disappointed. i'm sick of all his "energy" and "promotional gifts" then watching his teams lay eggs. i want a Final Four. from what i've seen... he will never get us there.

Why do some fans bash Pearl after every loss If we beat Kentucky Saturday then you'll be singing his praises. You have to win and lose with your team and coach.

He is not being bashed. He displayed an amazing ability to motivate his teams the first 2 years. It has dropped off the last two. He was distracted last year with his divorce and mistress. He has yet to get his team back. He has gotten away from the press and trap that became his signature and the half court offense is well... does not exist. The signature grit that was his is lacking.

I will agree this team is hard to watch at times. They are a good team, not a great team. I want Pearl to get past the sweet Sixteen as much as anybody, but I'm not going to bash him yet. We have had arguably the best years of Tennessee Basketball under Pearl and more people than ever are coming out to watch. We have the best recruiting class in a long time, possibly ever coming in next year. Basketball is different than football, a couple players are a lot easier to replace in football. Maybe some of the departures are Pearl's fault but the team has suffered from losing Tyler, Negedu, R. Smith, and Duke over the last couple of years. I want to give him time to build a consistent program. I don't want a final four and then miss the tourney for 3 years. If he can't get us past the sweet sixteen in a couple years with the talent coming in, then I will say thank you for making us respectable again and hope we move on to a coach that can take it to another level.
