The Grill and BBQ thread

I'm with you. I've got a charcoal grill, smoker, and gasser. I grill 4-5 times a week and my propane is my daily driver. I just don't have time to wait for coals to get hot to grill some shrimp on a Tuesday night. On the other hand, there are things I just won't put on gas like a butt, ribs, fryer etc.

That's why I went gas too. I work a lot of hours, I don't have time to fool with coals.

Also I am supremely happy with my weber.

I definitely get convenience of gas as a factor and there may be a day where I've got both options but I don't see how coals are that big of a problem. Assuming the weather is fine, I usually get home from work around 6:30 and the first thing I do is fill a chimney, light some newspaper underneath it and let it go. I go change, catch up with wife and baby, and then start prepping whatever is going on the grill that night. 30 minutes later I'm grilling.

i'm been thinking of buying a webber smoker. anyone have an opinion one way or the other?

If you're gonna drop some dough, I love my Traeger. It's like cheating. Don't tell my wife...I tell her I have to tend to it when she wants something done.

I can understand that! Unfortunately I usually get home around 8:25. I like to have my food done by 9. Not starting.

I do like the flavor with the coals.

Ok, that is completely understandable then. Gas it is in your situation!

I have a hybrid Smoke Hollow I got from Gander Mountain. Gas in one side and charcoal on the other. I love the modularity it offers. May be an option if you are in between the 2 fuels. It's great for searing meats on the gas and then cooking it slow over the coals. It's also nice when you forget to fill the propane or not get a bag of charcoal.

That's a great all in one.

Yeah just cooked in some sauce with some onions and beer

Very nice. I got a good deal on some plum wine the other day and thought I might try braising with it and some herbs. I've only braised ribs once but it turned out pretty good.

Ended up going with th S-310. Had everything I wanted plus got 20% off from lowes as a follow up to a flooring screw up in my old house. I'll get a smoker eventually, but this will work for now.
