The Halfcourt Trap - SEC East Preview

Uh - how bout you read into the descriptions a bit more buddy. The only one he was really off on was Florida.

.

Oh wow awesome, I, too, can do a write-up where I say "5. Team X: though something tells me they could be someone to look out for!"

Which means basically if they finish 5th=I was right! If they finish better than 5th= I was right!

"Team 2 will struggle b/c of ___"....they finish 1st...EVERY team struggles because of SOMETHING.

My god, bruno, you have some good insights usually, get your devotion in check.

Nothing about that prediction is interesting, and even though you and hat's son say so, that doesn't make it true.

Sorry guy, this is called dropping the ball.

Also of note: he called auburn's D awful; and made fun of vandy's interior D(currently top 15 out of 344 teams)...you can do all the word-wringing you want to make that number drop, but you can't get it below 'good'.

Now enjoy the win, and yet another good performance by Prince, like I'm doing. :dance2:

According to his article - he said his "gut" says USCjr would be the surprise team of the SEC east. It obvious he didn't rank them with his gut though or he would have put them higher I'm sure.

Offering good insights on each team is a lot more impressive than some moron homer on the board who happened to get 1-6 right. A homer that is halfway educated could have gotten atleast two right and hoped the other 4 fell in place (the two being Tennessee on top (homer pick) and Georgia in the cellar).

Hey I'm sure he's made some good calls in the past, his posts tend to glaze over me mostly, but in this case there's not much to justify someone saying "good post regardless", because there's really nothing there to back it up.

And let's be honest, if you're gonna hedge your bet and say "5th....but they could be better, I can feel it in my gut!" you are basically saying "they will be good or not good" which you might as well just shut up and not say anything in that case.

No biggie, I just thought it was funny that that one dude came into slobber is all.

Yes - people may say that honestly a lot to give them wiggle room and not because they know what they're talking about (the in my "gut" phrase), but I typically don't see it from Hatvol often from what I've seen.

just curious, can you actually play or coach basketball? Seems to me you're the chart geek that cleaned jocks and socks. Maybe I've got you pegged incorrectly. You could have been the Gatorade cup filler.

Yikes, this is like SNL-material circa 19never. I guess that's funny to a young kid, mentioning 'geek' references or whatever, and since you're hat's kid i'll excuse you from it, but I mean c'mon, you can do better than this.

Basically you're saying "you care about #s!, that means all this other stuff! hahah I'm gonna generalize and just roll with it! wooo!", and that's just really dumb.

But yes, I can coach ball, as I'm sure anyone with half-a-brain who chooses to post on bball board in their spare time could.

Ya, that could be the case, I just usually see basic platitudes and people fawning over them, and it's kinda weird, but there's probably just posts I'm missing out on I suppose.

have you coached or played ball at any meaningful level? stat dorks don't fare too well on that front in my experience. Again, maybe I've got you wrong.

You know just as well as I do that it would have no relevance what I said in response, you would simply seek to justify your already held belief about me. Which is a shame, because I'd never be so petty as to dismiss someone off-the-bat: the first sign of stupidity is believing you can't learn something from everyone.

But because I'm a sucker for being upfront, I played high school ball, and coached on-the-side while working on my degree. Am I qualified to coach at even a jr. college level? Not a chance. Sometimes you gotta choose life and career over ball, as I'm sure many here know all too well.

Does that rule me out as someone who can know something about basketball from viewing the games and the compiled numbers? No.

that's about what I figured.

You haven't been dismissed off the bat. You've been dismissed after voluminous garbage about statistical analysis and going far out of your way to take umbrage with the brightest basketball poster on this site. You don't have to like it or agree with anything he says, but you look like a total buffoon they way you go about this. You don't need to appreciate it, but the guy you like to belittle at every turn knows one helluva lot more basketball than you do, but you keep it going. I wanted to know if you have some qualifications that make you feel like you know more that what I've simply seen here. Sounds like a no.

I'd simply leave it alone and the situation will likely leave you alone. Nobody is going out of their way to comment upon your commentary, so just discuss and add to the conversation. You clearly have something to add. You detract from that addition the longer you keep up this stupid game. (and yes, I'm aware that I should take my own advice)

As an aside, I can learn something and still think the author is an idiot.

Ya see this is what I mean, you already have your mind made up, and you're dumber for it.

There's nothing I've seen that suggests that dude knows anything, other than an ability to talk huff-y, which is funny and all, I guess, but that's like it.

I mean, the freakin' postgame report treated like manna around here is basically an articulation of what musberger's semen might say after watching a polygraph of Team X vs Tennessee. It's weird is all, to see such accord afforded to THAT.

If you don't like someone questioning the board's strangely exalted "guru", that's fine, but like everything american, these things here thrive on a sense of democracy, not on a tendency to cower in the face of innocuous 'insights' like "Player X reminds me of 90s-era Celebrity Y on Drug Z(get it everybody? rofl)".

I get that he's your dad and so you genuinely love him, and I actually admire that, but I don't think it necessarily means someone shouldn't call this baloney for what it so often tends to be.

But most importantly: if you think stats are garbage, you're probably not cut out for this oh so crazy and wild!!!! complex world we live in! EEEEE!!

Anyhow, good luck, go vols. If you have anything else to add you can PM me, I'm sure no one here wants this thread sidetracked into mindless posturing and one-liner fests. But let's probably just leave it at this: we disagree.

question to your heart's content, but your approach is simply pathetic, especially for a stats driven guy. Stats are wrong as often as they're right, but you tout them like there is no tomorrow in calling people around here lame. That is stupidity.

You have an opinion and make some sense, jump in all day and debate your point to the hilt. When you're broken down and schooled because your stat magic is regularly proven worthless, why keep the Quixote thing going?

Who cares what the world thinks of the post game report? I generally pay it no mind for what it's worth, but you seem to elevate it with this petty jealous thing you have about it. People on here clearly appreciate it and read it nearly religiously. How does that do anything to you? Why do you need to beat it up to feel good? Take umbrage with the points, but not the author. Refute the points. Do something different, because you've done nothing but reduce yourself to a petty, jealous sounding stat dork. True or not, that's who you are.

I don't get this, we've been over it like 90 times, and seem to be in agreement: CERTAIN stats are valuable, others are worthless. I've been saying that since the start, but it's easier for you to paint me as something other than that. I dunno, man, if you haven't got it by now...

All I do is refute the points...but yes, no one really cares about the postgame report, but we are IN A THREAD about that author, which means THAT IS THE TOPIC. It would be kinda weird if I started spouting off otherwise. Wanna talk about Central Connecticut state? Sure, but don't then call me out on caring too much about Central Connecticut State.

What on earth would there be to be jealous of? Dude, it's a messageboard, extend your life, this is a very minor thing in the world. If you can even conceive of serious emotions in a place like this you need to look into that.

Nota bene: Appreciating the worth of stats does not diminish one's appreciation for the worth of actually viewing the game. In fact, an understanding of both puts you that much further ahead of someone who just sides with one.

Have we not talked about that like a billion times? Yeesh.

I'm sure he could use reading comprehension lessons.

Hey look, I'm gonna predict what happens in the year 2029 in the Big-12...right now

1. Texas Tech: Great coaching puts them here, but they could be in for trouble if things don't go right.

2. Oklahoma: Wow, Tammy Atkins is a complete player, and though my gut has them at #1, I think problems could happen here.

3. Kansas: A lot of upside and downside here, so don't be surprised if they finish higher than this...or lower.

4. Mexico City: For a new team in the conference, I gotta say, they've shown signs of life, but their coach is an outrageous prick. They could win or lose the conference though.

5. blargblarg etc

I don't know what there is to be jealous of, but you keep saying things to other posters about the points being meaningless because anyone could have said them or that they were simply luck or that they took no brain. You do that after a poster has thanked someone for them or said they liked them. What good is pointing out to that individual that the point really isn't a big deal. Does that serve any purpose? Why do you do that regularly?

It is an absolutely meaningless thing in the world, so why do you need to be the hat stalker and make sure everyone else knows that what he says you could get off of a Cracker Jack tattoo? Just let it go and contribute.
