It was the plan of many, including our senior military and intelligence folks. The idea wasn't revolutionary enough to credit one guy, though some try and some want said credit.

Well that was what I was taught. Also that it was discredited when no other countries fell after we withdrew. It was what gave the perception to the public that the war was senseless, imo.

ACtually I am mistaken. He develpoed the containment theory . Just wasn't thinking clearly. Did Kennan even have a part in the domino effect theory?

A proxy fight isn't necessarily senseless. Political decision making and limited warfare with stupid ROE are senseless. There are always strategic reasons to be fighting, but the circumstances don't always justify them.

Not what I am saying. I think the war was justified and acceptable. HAd I been alive, I would have gladly participated. I'm saying public perception soured for 3 reasons, in my opinion.

Gradual withdrawal
The domino efect was proved to be false
Operation Linebacker II lit their asses uip and had them begging for mercy (why didn't we begin the war this way?)

timeline too long
hippie movement
My Lai.


TET destroyed the VC, yet it became a bad thing in our media because it disnt mesh with the horseshat message that the admin was feeding our superliberal press. We had many ways to slam the door on Ho Chi, but refused to do it. Was probably unwinnable late because our stomachs couldn't handle it and our hippies won the PR war.

I took a college course taught by a General and a Colonel, one a Bn Cdr the other a Co Cdr in Vietnam. Great class, amazing perspective.

Except for Laos, Cambodia and South Africa among numerous others, once they knew our will to resist was nil and their people had assumed dominance in our own state department, yeah right.

Why don't you take your happy ass and hike it on back to wherever you came from and stay there???
