Watched this yesterday.

Loved the story. It was better than the first one. Hated the ending for the most part the other(s) including the LORD OF THE RINGS series were stand alone pictures. This one Jackson chooses to end it right in mid action sequence. Never heard so much er....chatter at the end of one of these movies. Cursing and even booing.

Still all things considered. Very well done, right up to the ending. Just not that ending Boo, boo, boo.

I thought the second installment of the trilogy was better as well. Not as drawn out as the first. Martin Freeman does a great job as Bilbo once again. As for the ending, I liked the cliff hanger. The crowd in the theater I was watching it at booed as well. But I Iiked what Peter Jackson decided to do with the ending. You have to remember the trilogy is more like a play with each picture being an act. I think in the end, when the trilogy is complete, we will be rewarded with with a satisfying ending.

what about the Battle of Five Armies?

This is what I was thinking would be the hard part about making it a trilogy. Either they do all the fun stuff in part 2 or have to end something unfinished badly in it. Looks like they chose the latter, though I've still not seen it.

The first one seemed like a child's movie. I stopped watching after the troll scene as I couldn't take it anymore.

Didn't see anything about 5 armies of course I have not read the books in a lotta years either.

Jackson went to insane efforts to over dramatize (read: change, add to, etc) the battles in the LOTR. He finally gets a chance to go full bat flip crazy with a battle without actually changing the actual story and he's going to deemphasize it by having the killing of Smaug as part of the third installment too? Disappointment.

Going to see it hopefully today. From what I understand the third movie will have the Battle of the Five Armies in it.

I've thought about for the whole year seeing this 2nd film & couldn't wait to see it till I saw how long the damn thing is so I decided not to go Friday. I don't know if I can sit there for 2 hrs & 40 minutes to watch a movie? I think maybe I'll wait for the DVD in March. For those that have seen it don't you think it was a little too long?

if you were this excited about the 2nd film for a whole year, you obviously watched An Unexpected Journey right? All 2 hours and 49 minutes of it? And now you're freaked out that the new one is actually 8 minutes shorter?

Yes, silly of me I guess. I even bought the extended version on blu-ray of the first movie which has 13 minutes more. But I can watch & put the movie on pause when I feel a poop coming on. :) Seems like I can't do that with the live showing.

Should be part 3..and I haven't seen this one yet but I am assuming Sauron makes an appearance in part 3..

Missed my point. See my other posts.

And if Sauron appears in part 3, I'll be very disappointed. I've already heard about other just created characters and I was ready to stomach Legolas just appearing out of nowhere, but at this point Sauron was just starting to set up power, he wasn't doing anything. Grrr, now I don't even know that I want to go watch.

Technically Sauron is the Necromancer of Dol Guldur mentioned in the Hobbit.

*Spoilers*

The Necromancer/Sauron is indeed shown in the movie.

There's a big difference in talking about Sauron as the Necromancer and having him in the movie. Kinda like that goofball brown wizard. Yea, he's mentioned, but never seen.

Was definitely better than the first but that wasn't too hard.

Great visuals as expected but fight and action scenes are ridiculously long - we get it Peter.
