the "I like Bruce" thread

Interesting. I would consider myself a player's coach but based on that perhaps not.

Fulmer is another good example of a players coach. Big Brother more than an authority figure. Don Meyer was the latter, but reserved the ability to be buddies.

Witch Doctor wonder if anyone notice Bruces style changed after Tyler was booted? Witch Doctor notice he more vocal with his players. Witch Doctor believe Bruce learn not to be too much of a confidant with his players...Witch Doctor observe..

I think Bruce is a good coach. Is he one of the greatest? No.

I'm not much into worshipping "good" coaches. He is a very good fit for Tennessee, he's a great salesman and a decent coach.

This is so funny to me. Comments like , "he's not a top 10 coach", followed up by "if the right team calls he's gone".. Who do you think the right team would be? Im assuming your talking about a top program, but why would they want him if he's not a top coach? Just wondering.

Don't disagree. Also think he had to adjust to the entitlement mentality at this level vs the scrappers he was accustomed to where he had been. Scrappers will still bust ass with a laissez faire coach. Thoroughbreds will sit on their asses if allowed. Only busting will smell of methane and potato chips.

Halfcourt d as arbiter of PT is slipping into his decision making too. It's why Hall and Swiper ride pine.

Forgive my use of first person.

Yea, I guess I'm a mix or something. On the court my biggest things are defense, accountability, hustling etc and I have no problem benching a guy but I joke around a lot and try to get to know them off the court. I play music during certain times and get them hyped and stuff but I won't put up with loafing and stuff like that.

Bruce is a good coach and we are lucky to have him. Yes there are probably better coaches (not a lot) , but there a lot more bad coaches. We are a football school but Bruce has at least put us on the map, and he's managed to keep us there. Nothing wrong with wanting more, but dont diminish what he has accomplished here. Just my opinion.

Funny considering he was blacklisted and frequently says he appreciates UT taking a chance on him.

And how does that prevent someone from feeling lucky to have him?

He does not say he "feels" lucky that we have him. He says "we are lucky to have him". How much luck does it take to get someone being blacklisted to take your offer?

How about having the luck that one of the better young basketball coaches in the league got blacklisted and sent to coaching purgatory until we took a chance on him.

Youl have to understand that some of these folks would not be satisified with any coach. Pearl has done and is doing a good job. He will only get better with time.

You realize that he has been coaching for 17 years don't you?

Uhm, because any number of schools could have given him the chance UT did. This isn't complicated. Are you just arguing to argue?

If you look at the context of the comment, it's obvious he's saying Bruce WAS a young coach when he got blacklisted because of the Illinois incident. He was an assistant at Iowa at the time, and about 28 years old....
