The Impeachment Thread

Yeah, you got someone's half-baked theory, as usual.. while Flynn gave his own testimony.

I'll stick with the facts. Feel free to contribute some, for a change.
The texts are real they were turned over after the plea...they lied under oath and falsified the reporting form...they are going to jail unless they talk and since Trump is gonna win a 2nd term..there will be no pardons for The Lovebirds

How long did it take you to create this fantasy world you live in? The majority of your posts don't have a damn thing to do with the thread topic.

Per NPR, this is a small portion of the opening statement that Lt. Col. Alexander S. Vindman, the top Ukraine expert on the National Security Council, is going to recite in his testimony before the House impeachment inquiry today. Lt. Col. Vindman is expected to describe his concerns with how the Trump administration handled Ukraine policy and with a July 25th phone call between President Trump and Ukraine President Zelensky:

"In the spring of 2019, I became aware of outside influences promoting a false narrative of Ukraine inconsistent with the consensus view of the interagency. This narrative was harmful to U.S. government policy. While my interagency colleagues and I were becoming increasingly optimistic on Ukraine's prospects, this alternative narrative undermined U.S. government efforts to expand cooperation with Ukraine." Vindman says he relayed "certain concerns" to national security officials internally "in accordance with my decades of experience and training, sense of duty, and obligation to cooperate within the chain of command." Vindman also says he believed if Ukraine actually pursued an investigation into the Biden family and Burisma, as Trump suggested it did, Ukraine would lose bipartisan support, which would in turn "undermine all U.S. national security."

Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman's testimony is going to cut into the Republican narrative in a couple of different ways. For one thing, not only is he apparently going to corroborate everything that the "whistleblower" alleged in the complaint, but since he was privy to the July 25th phone call, he will be also be giving firsthand knowledge of the content of the call itself. Vindman is also not a career bureaucrat or a political partisan. He is a decorated Army officer with a purple heart who has worked under both Democratic and Republican administrations. He has served in the United States' embassies in both Kiev, Ukraine and in Moscow. He exudes credibility and experience on the subject of which he will be speaking. His integrity will be very hard to impugn. His service and sacrifice to this country are unquestionable.

GOP has been hanging on to the fact the whistleblower wasn't on the call. Now the person that was on the call is a patriotic purple heart Iraq vet. How far will the goalposts be moved this week?

They will point out that he wasn't born in the United States. That must mean that Lt. Col. Vindman is guilty of something. The fact that he has honorably served his country in a foreign war and made sacrifices that a man like Trump could never dream of, will ultimately mean nothing. Xenophobia will prevail... and Republicans must protect their dear leader.

Why wasn't he the 1st person to testify, since he was on the call and all?

You’re right. Let’s start impeaching presidents because someone doesn’t agree with what they do. Come on man. Unless you turn up any actual evidence of wrongdoing and not opinions of someone not liking what Trump says or does then you have no chance to remove him from office. Everything so far is nothing but conjecture. Of course the house will vote to impeach but that’s because there is no middle anymore. You are on one side or the other regardless of the topic.

What I find interesting is that I heard a CNN reporter talking about Vindman this morning. A Republican congressman said he had only ever heard of Vindman yesterday like everyone. The CNN reporter said no, I was actually told about Vindman last week. So if this is so super sensitive and secret that the Dems are worried about witnesses talking to each other why are they leaking upcoming witnesses to what is supposed to be impartial (laughable, I know) media? Smells like collusion to me since Dems love that word so much.

Lmao. Who tf this guy think he is.
He has a very impressive resume.
  • Has has served for two decades in the U.S. Army. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2015. As an infantry officer he served multiple overseas tours, including in South Korea and Germany. He is a decorated Iraq War veteran, having received a Purple Heart after being wounded by a roadside bomb.
  • He is currently a foreign affairs specialist serving on the National Security Council as the Director for European Affairs. In this role, he became part of the U.S. delegation at the inauguration of the Ukraine's newly elected president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
  • He has served in the U.S. embassies in both Kyiv, Ukraine and Moscow, Russia. After returning to Washington, D.C. he was then a politico-military officer focused on Russia for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
  • He is fluent in both Russian and Ukrainian.
  • Most importantly, as it pertains to his testimony today, he will become the first White House official to testify in the impeachment inquiry who was actually on the July 25th phone call between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
That doesn't look like someone who is going to be easily discredited to me.

Let's see what all he has to say. This isn't second hand information anymore. He is in a position to undercut the entire Trump Administration defense.

If he can’t say he heard a definitive quid pro quo demand from Trump, it really doesn’t matter what he says.

What if he does? Like I said, let's see what he has to say.

...and you are wrong that it doesn't matter what he says. He was on the phone call. This will be the most consequential witness in the entire inquiry for that very reason.

There is no transcript. Not that what he released wasn’t damning, anyways.
This should be an interesting day. This guy's testimony could make the Trump team have to shift their defense to something else. If we start hearing things like "there is nothing wrong with a president offering a quid-pro-quo to a foreign leader", then that means it was a great day to be a Democrat.
