The Impeachment Thread

Disagree.

Had the framers intended to make this a legal question that could be carried out by a bureaucrat, they were certainly capable of articulating specific criminal elements, and they certainly had the choice of allocating that decision to the judiciary.

The allocation of the decision to a body of elected representatives and the ambiguity of the language describing the criteria for removal both imply that the framers wanted the choice to be informed more by local customs of the time rather than a set of fixed criteria that could be carried out by a bureaucratic functionary.

The populace determines whether their president’s conduct is acceptable, and the senate is supposed to carry out their wishes, by proxy.

I think you can debate the merits of the system, but I’m convinced this was their intent.
You make an excellent argument. Thank you. Allow me to mull on it before I respond.

You and your assumptions. I would be upset if a President, of any party, were assassinated. Most sane people would. I can think a President is a dirt bag and not want him killed. He is the rightfully elected POTUS. Regardless of how I think or feel about him or his policies. And since you went down this path I feel compelled to ask you the same. If Obama were assassinated how would you have felt?

From all the looting and burning, probably like WW3 just started.

She is an idiot who’s mind is gone. She has let the AOC and Warren wing of the party take control
I get you think she is an idiot, but her mind is fine. Like I said, she's trying to keep the Dems together. That has always been a difficult thing to do. She wouldn't risk moderate and independent support on nothing. She has caught hell from the far left of the party for not pursuing impeachment the last two years. She isn't an idiot, she is very politically astute. She knows she needs overwhelming, undeniable proof to go after Trump. I'd be shocked if she started the inquiry and doesn't have something more substantial than a memo.

The VN replacement for hating on Hillary has not taken control of anything. AOC and Warren are just a piece of the party, same as Biden, Tulsi, and Pete.

They need a boogeyman. To help salve the pain of defending their own.

She fought as long as she could against the radical extreme dangerous wing of the party, she lasted a year it was a good effort but like Biden she realized where the party is. You know your party is f’ed when Biden and Pelosi are now the moderates.

The House has voted 421-0 with 2 voting "present" calling for the release of the whistleblower complaint against Trump. Not one single member of Congress voted against its release. That seems like a sharp rebuke of the Trump Administration and the Department of Justice for such a lengthy delay tactic.

There is reporting that DOJ blocked the DNI from sending it to Congress with some phonied up excuse. Has Barr's fingerprints all over it.

So round 1 is that Trump will blame Rudy for going rogue. Round 2 will be that when Trump found out that DOJ blocked it he ordered its release.

Round 3 is going to boomerang on Biden real soon. Hope you like Warren.

Round 3 is most Americans see this for what it is.

There is no way Barr comes out of this with his hands clean. He was trying to keep the whistleblower's complaint away from the House and Senate Intelligence Committees, plain and simple. Even though the law calls for such a complaint to be released to them. It seems that Barr has been "a Good German" to a fault.
