The Ink is Dry on the Contract!!!

This is the TRUTH and you guys need to know. President Robert Witt and Athletic Director Mal Moore asked me to start a covert campaign of smoke and mirrors on Volnation.com implying the hiring of Steve Spurrier. While I protested at first, they convinced me that it was the best thing to do to hide the fact that they had just signed Nick Saban to a long term contract. My loyalties to our football program became more important than my moral fortitude, and for that I AM SORRY. Since Coach Saban is now secured as our Head Coach I will graciously accept any possible public ridicule, punishment and or banishment as seen fit by Volnation Moderators.

Regretfully,
TuskALoosa

And which part of your "This is the truth" will you dig out of with this from Saban statement himself. Below is from your on Huntsville Times.

When I was in college, it was always (speculation) about coming to the pros," said Saban, who won a national title after the 2003 season at Louisiana State. "This is the challenge I wanted. I had a good college job. Why would I have left that if I was going to be interested in other college jobs?"

VH, we all thought that it was actually done. Not just close but done. Now I am scratching my head as to why SS wouldn't take MORE than 3 times his current pay and have better facilities. Now our administration is running around like a teenage girl the day before the prom trying to find a date.

Simple....He doesn't need the money, and 'Bama simply is no longer that attractive of a job. Mostly the second part.

The unrelenting pressure of unrealistic expectations, coupled with the programs lack of long-term commitment has made 'Bama a tough sell to anyone currently in a good situation.

A name nobody has even as much as whispered...

Sly Croom.

They passed right by him the first time. It's not like he cannot coach. Recruiting at MSU can make anyone look subpar...

Sly Croom.

Any SEC coach that has a loss to Maine on their resume should never be considered for a better job.

I was trying to think of another example of an SEC team losing to a 1-AA school, but couldn't. Someone with better resources than me is going to have to research that.

An affinity for strippers and alcohol can, and have, been overlooked.

Past recruiting violations can be excused.

Loosing to a member of the A-10, at home, no less, should prevent you from serious consideration to move up in the coaching world.

Leaving aside the obviously pitiful talent level at MSU, I'll just consider myself slapped silly for even suggesting it.

Still, as has been said, Stallings record didn't exactly shimmer when he got the call. He is one of the last of the BearBoys, and an African American Major School hire would look very good.

Yeah, I know it's nuts. But then so is thinking Saban would consider the job. When reality sets in, he might start looking a bit better...

They need to just call Jim Grobe or Paul Johnson and get it over with.

Look, Bama has some specific needs in their coaching search. They need a guy with a squeaky clean image to keep the NCAA infractions committee off of their backs. They need a guy who grew up in the Alabama family and knows the program and its histroy. They need a guy who follows Bear-style football, knowing that defense and ball control win ballgames. They need a guy with a famous name, to help nationally recruit to a campus that isn't exactly known as a media mecca. They need a guy that is relatively young and energetic so that he can provide long term success and stability in their tumultuous program.

Bama should hire Mike Shula.

nice one Cotton. The NCAA probation ends in Feb. '07 so IMO they are looking more for a more "prototypical" Bama HC and not the sqeaky clean guy. They relish the rough and tough coach who can chew nails, spit fire, curse like a sailor, drink all the boosters under the table, and beat the livin' $*&% out of any other SEC coach on the field and toe-to-toe.

Would a guy who would drink himself under the table, then go home with a stripper who orders hundreds of dollars of room service on the university tab while the coach is passed out and then skipping out before he wakes up in the morning count?

If so, I think they may have had their man and let him go.

So if we are keeping score, that is one vote for Mike Shula, one vote for Mike Price. Does anybody want a write-in Dennis Francione or Mike Dubose?

In a post-probation era I think they would've kept Price. I heard that the trustees wanted to keep Price but the U Prez said no way and went against the trustees. This time around the trustees wanted Shula out but the Prez wanted to give him another year but suposedly the Prez did not want to go agasint the trustees 2x in a row so he caved.

This is NOT a rumor and remember who told you first. The 7 year 29 million dollar contract was signed between Steve Spurrier and the University of Alabama last night shortly after 10:00 p.m. After the bowl game announcements Sunday it will be publicly announced at a press conference. I wanted to spill it earlier on here but I wanted a 2nd confirmation, one in the Athletic Department and another from the Law Firm that drew it up. Thank you Vols, and have a nice Day!!! :dance2:

So much for that huh? Who's next?

Gump: You want me to be the coach at BAMA?

..........No Sir. I wouldn't go near that mess even if Jenny was wearin Coach Bryant's hat and a couple of those sparklin' pastie things on her chest.
