The Iraq War has cost 3 trillion dollars

Was the Iraq War worth the cost (3 trillion)?

The problem I have with this argument is that I have no confidence that the federal government wouldn't have blown the money on something worse.

Maybe they could spend it keeping interstate bridges from crashing into the river.

If they didn't spend it on bridges in the past 50 years, what makes you think they'd actually have done it in the past 5 years?

No way of telling what may have happened otherwise. More attacks on US soil, more instability in the middle east, etc. One thing is fairly certain though, whatever you think the money could have been used for wouldn't have happened.

The Government will spend money on whatever fits their needs, be it the war, or a museum for lesbian skateboarders who dyed their hair green. Assigning price tags to governement spending as a means of proving a point is aimless, as the money is being spent somewhere all the time.

I don't give a damn if it costs 6 trillion. We were attacked and nobody messes with us. There are things we have to do to ensure a future for our children and our childrens children. I'd say it is a humble offering at best.

just think of all the money they could have thrown into bio fuels? Only to later find out it's just as bad if not worse as traditional gas?

completely unrelated, but I take you a lot less seriously trut now that you have a Super Troopers avatar. The one with the guy (possibly you?) walking through the pond/lake/puddle with that gun while covered in camo is vastly different from your current one.

Interesting way to pose the question. Do you really understand anything about the conflict???

Apparently you don't. The reason Bush gave for invading Iraq was because they had WMD's. Apparently they are real hard to find.......or we made a mistake going in.

You might note that there is some questionable math in the author's analysis. The authors of this piece are promoting their book.

I'll see if I can dig up the counter arguments but their numbers have been questioned.

Either way, the number is huge.

Here's a brief article that explores some of the "costs" the authors use.

Estimating cost of war - give or take a few trillion | The Journal Gazette

Some are reasonable, some are really reaching. Some are not put in the best context (e.g. there is not a discussion of the billions we were spending to contain Sadam - the alternative to invading).

Overall, the WhiteHouse clearly under estimated while these authors over estimate.

no doubt that 4,000 is a huge loss, though.....whether or not that is a reasonable cost I am not uneasy to answer.....any life is a huge penalty....but these are men and women who realize this and wager this huge sacrifice.....

I love it when I see people criticizing other people's decision to risk their own lives for this countries and other countries freedoms. Arm chair quarterbacking is all too easy for a lot of people it seems. I'd love to see how some of you guys would use the money. I have an idea, let's put it in our public education system which is failing more than the war in the Middle East ever thought about.

They did have weapons of mass destruction. Just ask the Kurds.

They can fund it until it chokes and it will make no difference. Until they can do away with the teachers union nothing can help.

They did one hell of a job hiding them then. If having the WMD's is a reason for the U.S. to invade another country than we are just getting started.

Who is criticizing the soldiers fighting the war? Most of the people, and yes a lot of nut jobs included, are upset with the government not the soldiers.
