Anyone seen it yet ? 3 1/2 hours long -- how was it sitting in the theatre that long ?
.The Irishman on Netflix is a must see for mob movie lovers. It's based on the book I Heard You Paint Houses which is a metaphor for killing people and spraying their blood on, walls, ceilings and floors. It stars Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and many others. This may be as close as you'll ever come to closing the book on Jimmy Hoffa. The Irishman is Frank Sheeran (DeNiro) who is a Hoffa (Pacino) confidant, friend, bodyguard and mobster.
The movie is boring based on my expectations. It is not a great movie but probably getting high ratings for the actors and director involved. Not half the movie Goodfellas and Casino were plus it is probably not a true story according to what I found out on researching the Hoffa disappearance.I thought it looked pitched together at the last minute, probably over cut. The main characters faces looked bloated and puffy, unrealistic, why the heavy makeup? Dinero walked like he should be using a cane from start to finish, he is over the hill and should stay there. He and Pacino were better in Heat. The Character build up was minimal for such a long movie. Can't compare with any of the great crime family movies of the past. This movie will not be up for any awards. Glad I saw it free on Netflix.
No , I usually don’t for the comedic action movies but I did 20 or 30 years ago. Coen Brothers movies like “No Country for Old Men” are similar to what I like. Plus movies like “Good Fellas” and “The Godfather” I can watch over and over. The recent “The Shining “ sequel was very good in my opinion and a pleasant surprise. “Knives Out” is a movie I may see since it is getting ratings of 95%. Daniel Craig has been picking good movies to participate in. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a movie I would highly recommend.Well you must like Fast and Furious.
Mediocre compared to other Mob classics. Over-hyped and Over-rated. Pacino has two or three good moments but Deniro and Pesci sleepwalk thru the movie and the scenes in general are not done well for the 3.5 hour time length. The only good thing the movie does is to provide some of the player’s names who may have contributed to Hoffa’s disapperance but then chooses an ending which likely is not historically accurate.Loved it! Classic gangster movie.
We romanticize the older stuff. Byproduct of getting old. Remember my older uncles hated The Godfather.. no Jimmy Cagney.Mediocre compared to other Mob classics. Over-hyped and Over-rated.
