I agree. I actually watched it over a couple of days instead of straight thru. If it was a good movie I would have watched it thru the first time. It is getting rave reviews because of the name recognition of the actors and directors involved not because of the film’s quality. The Irishman' Named Best Film by National Board of Review
They must have seen a different version than me. I could not wait for this movie to end. Will not watch it again.
i thought it was pretty much flawless.
Pesci did his best work, LOL. The character was low key and not well developed. There are millions of non-actors who could pull it off. Not Pesci’s fault , it was just superficially written for the character.Great film of course. Obviously the post-Hoffa stuff dragged but I almost feel like that was the point, that the excitement of that time as gone and he was left to eventually be alone and feeble and the time dragged. The cast were all amazing. Pesci did some of his best work. Such a fascinating story, didn't know that alternate take on the death of Joey Gallo. Also I am now convinced the mob killed JFK.
They’re not great because the character’s are not well written. In fact the only character that was somewhat written Ok and not a caricature was the Provenzio character. Pacino played his usual short tempered character which is reminiscent of about 90% of the roles he plays.Pesci and Pacino are great.
The movie is mediocre.
Goodfellas, Casino, Gangs of New York, The Departed..all better than The Irishman.
Jimmy Hoffa was an easy going dude? They’re not great because the character’s are not well written. I would tend to agree with this (although I think its better than Casino) but that does not make The Irishman a bad film by any means. Goodfellas is my favorite movie of all time. Gangs has some of the most beautiful shots I have ever seen. The Departed is good but contained, its a different type of film. Mean Streets is a great raw film. I have always enjoyed it. You also left out Raging Bull, the most beautiful film ever made.
I rate them good or bad simply on the basis of wanting to watch them more than once. I have copies of all the movies you listed above and have watched them all more than once, some several times. Nothing about this movie makes me desire to watch it again or purchase a copy. Pass or fail.
