Yeah that's why I said flirt with it. If Memphis loses to Louisville Thursday they'll drop out. Just depends on how other things shake out. Honestly not concerned with being ranked. Keep winning.

Very true. Rankings aren't good for anything other than conversation amongst fans. If the Vols keep winning, the rankings and RPI willtakecReof themselves and we'll at least be able to get excited come March Madness for the first time in several years.

Agreed. This is the team I wanted to see early in the year but it's still early and they are learning how to play together. When your best player has 7 shots and gets 19 points that's how you know things are going great.

Interesting as well. We've now won 5 of the last 6 road regular season SEC games

Awesome summary. Vols played like a veteran team tonight. Probably the most solid performance by Stokes and Maymon in the same game this season. I'm anxious to see how O'Bryant III will do in the NBA. Good game, and go vols.

If Maymon continues to progress back to earlier form, we could be a team to recon with. Great win, great start to SEC play.

Those early losses may end up being a blessing in disguise . We obviously learned from them . I think we have turned the corner now , playing like we should be playing

Just watched, stupid work, but really nice win on the road. Barton and Jordy blew the game open, Stokes was a beast. The rotation early threw me off, Edwards??? Lol Ability to break the press is a little worrisome moving forward. Stop dribbling to the side and waiting for 2 guys to trap you. But honestly who really cares right now? I'm happier than a drag queen with new bewbs. Lol

1. One of the five biggest victories of the Cuonzo Martin era. This was a much needed victory over a decent SEC opponent on the road to get this team a good win and get a huge road victory. The "Tougher Breed" mantra Coach Martin has been preaching this year rang true for the Volunteers tonight.

2. Jeronne Maymon is a damn warrior. He battled a more athletic, taller, stronger man tonight in Johnny O'Bryant, a fantastic player, and gave him everything he could handle and some, with not much help. He should be commended for the job that he performed today. Holding O'Bryant to 11 points on 11 shots is an incredible job by him.

3. Tennessee won because of the first half shooting barrage by Mr. Barton and Jordy Mac, but the defense was the main reason. When you hold a team to 37% shooting at THEIR FLOOR, you win ball games. It's that simple. That was a great team effort on defense.

4. Tennessee downed the action (as Jimmy Dykes repeatedly mentioned) and it worked. Tennessee's bigs were quick to cover the guards penetration, and Tennessee's length on the perimeter gave the smaller LSU guards (Hickey and Stringer) problems all night. It was a great defensive game plan.

5. One more thing about the game plan. I loved the call to make O'Bryant beat you. LSU over forced their hand to O'Bryant and killed their rhythm in the first half. Tennessee mixed up their coverages on O'Bryant in terms of angles on their doubles, which was a very nice wrinkle LSU didn't expect.

6. Antonio Barton and Jordan McRae made really smart decisions with their shot selctions. I was really impressed that every shot was in the flow of the offense. This is important for Tennessee. They only shot 15 three's tonight, hitting 8. That's a great number.

7. Bernard King Player of the Game: Happy birthday to the big man, Jarnell Stokes! I know this is the best birthday present you can get, the Bernard King Player of the Game, sponsored by "Homemade Taco Night at Z's!" Jarnell was a monster on the board, created an extra 10 possessions, not just with offensive rebounds, but with tip backs and fighting for the ball also. He was everywhere on defense as LSU struggled with his paint coverage, and had four steals. He dominated the baseline when LSU tried to attack them their. He didn't shoot the ball well, but he got seven free throw attempts and helped with the trapping aggressive defense of LSU. Great job by him.

8. Tennessee must get a better press break. Barton played well tonight, but as a PG, your first job is to protect the ball. He didn't do that tonight. He has to learn to move the ball better. Martin didn't help him a lot (only thing he didn't do well tonight), but as a senior, you must do a better job.

9. Jordan McRae showed his improvement tonight. He was feeling it, but instead focused his energy on getting the ball down low, playing defense, helping on the press, and making winning basketball plays. 19 points on 7 shots? From Jordan McRae? That just goes to show that McRae is not just a scorer, he's a basketball player.

10. A HUGE victory for the Volunteers tonight. This was a must win game and UT got it. They came out hot from the gate, played great defense, and Tennessee was flat out tougher than LSU as their place. This team looks to have turned the corner. Once the bench gets set, this team could become very dangerous. They are peaking at the right time.

Go Vols!!! :hi:
At first look, I thought LSU is not really that good, on second thought, the defense played a very good game and offensively, shoot selection was great and the shots were going down and this had to have something to do with the way LSU was playing. The press by LSU was really never an issue, handled very nicely by the Vols. If we had played this way for the whole season, there would be now question about making the dance. Perhaps now the players understand what is needed for the rest of the season!

I disagree about the way we handled the press. I'd guess 1/3 (or more) of our 16 TOs came as a result of their press, either in the backcourt or being trapped after pushing right past the timeline. Thompson was particularly affected by their press. He turned it over 2x in only 13 minutes. Barton turned it over 3x in 31 minutes. They certainly didn't look comfortable against it, and I can assure that opponents that watch this film will see that and implement it against us.

Great write-up. The press break was the main concern for me, have we even practiced that before? The ball screen defense was a little subject, also. There were two or three times in the second half they took it to Maymon and Jordan and easily scored. Overall, I thought we handled a very good LSU team on their own court. Great Win. GBO.

Really impressed with the team after last night. We played one heck of a game. I get nervous when we're up by a bit and play starts getting sloppy but we held it together. I thought O'Bryant would destroy us but we did probably a better job than anyone else has done on him. The future is bright for this team.
