It has a lower rating because of the homophobes giving it 1 star. The majority of people loved the episode.
Then why does it have 217k user reviews on IMDB and the next closest episode (the pilot) has 106k?It had low ratings because it was a useless episode. Have all the gay characters you want to have. Just don’t waste an hour of our lives with a gay love story that ends with both of them dead and in no way progresses the plot of the show.

Because people react the most something bad. People who get bad service for example are more likely to leave a review than people who receive good service.
Do you agree the episode strayed away from the plot for an hour long love story that ended with both people dead? Or do you think it furthered the plot? To me it felt like an hour of filler. “We have to make x episodes, how do we get that far”.
Episode 7 is rated lower and only has 65k reviews. Don't think that logic holds up.
I thought it was a well-told, well-acted story that explained how Joel and Ellie acquired a truck and enough supplies to get where they needed to go.
The episode was 100% filler. They introduce two people then immediately kill both.
I'm positive that the episode was 100% filler. They introduce two people then immediately kill both.
Not even close. Probably in the Bottom 3 of any episode of any major show aired on HBO. It was horrible.
Not to mention it was 100% filler. They introduced two news characters and then killed them both.
