The level of arm chair coaching on this board is astronomical

I may get flamed for this but I think Butch is more focused on getting the system in place than modifying the system for one season. I think some other posters like sjt have had similar observations. He knows he has time and I think he's more of a methodical approach type.

DD you hit the nail on the head. It has become clear that bUTch knows his system works and he is not going to change it for one season. There is a little word called Faith that us humans struggle with and I have Faith that bUTch knows what he is doing.

I'm a big supporter of what Butch is doing here, and I will not criticize or question him until at least year 3. You have to give the guy an opportunity to build the roster with his players, not Dooley's. There's a reason why we are seeing so many freshman play right now. Some are playing because they are talented enough and READY, but some are playing because of lack of depth and they are the best option. Big difference! I'm fairly sold on Butch as a HC, but I do sometimes question Bajakian and other assistants. Sometimes his play calling drives me crazy because its so conservative and repetitive, but other times he impresses me like last years UGA game. Those pivotal 4th down play calls were masterful in the UGA game. I think his play calling is limited due to his confidence with where our O-line is right now. I do expect him to open it up in the coming weeks reguardless, because if we do the same things we have the past 2 weeks, I believe we will have little chance to pull an upset over OU, UGA, or FL. Those defenses are on another level talent wise from what we've faced so far, and we are gonna need some big plays and timely plays to have a chance. Give these coaches a chance and try to be patient. One thing I have little doubt about is their work ethic and commitment to our team. This fact alone is a major step up from our two previous staffs.

I hope he gets the time to do what he needs

I'm not sure we have the patience if we don't see a bowl game by 2015

Agree. The offense will have the piece it's been missing next season. A half way Mobil qb whether it's dobbs, or an incoming freshman.

I do love what he's done with the defense, there is a bright side to all of this. We look a lot faster and more athletic than we have for the past 3-4 years. The offense can improve over the next month or so, the D should look even better, with no injuries.

I may get flamed for this too but short of a Mason or Dooley vs KY blundering I think he could squeeze five out of UT with a change in coordinators. Jmo. I say all this but part of me would like to see them modify the system somewhat. I think next year will be the most telling on how well this system will work.

I think we make a bowl game this year if injuries don't kill us, and I'm very confident we make a bowl next year. If not, Butch may find himself on the hot seat in 2016, and I would expect some major staff turnover. Sold on Butch, but sometimes worry that some of his staff may not be on his level, and he is overly loyal to them because of the time they've been together. Hope they all find success here and stay for a very long time. We need stability in our program, and haven't had that here in a while.

If it is fake a handoff and throw an out or handoff and run around the edge it won't work in the sec. How do you think the sec won so many championships? The sec had bigger, faster players on defense. No one could get to the edge and that started 16 years ago. Not one of these spread teams that win go to the sidelines mostly and run around the ends. I can't think of one. Auburn, Oregon, and any winning spread team demolishes between the tackles and gets the ball to playmakers in the middle of the field, in real space. But, whatever. It's not butchs offense... Bajakian calls the plays..

Seeing that Nathan Peterman is 2nd on the depth chart, I would say it will either be Peterman or an incoming freshmen.

If the OP thinks the board has a bunch of armchair QB's now, he missed the Fulmer days on here. That was the golden age of armchair QB's on here, and deleted posts.

UT D from 2013, 2012, 2011 etc says your full of crap about no sec teams having success exploiting the edges.

Yeah, where did I say the worst defense in the sec? I said championships. Doesn't mean bottom feeders like us, I said championships for the sec. But keep on believing we can run sideline to sideline against Florida, bama, and even usc when We can't do it against usu or a state. Keep believing auburn and Oregon run sideline to sideline. Don't matter cause it will work out one way or the other in the end. At least name one team that runs the read option sideline to sideline and about 90% of their passes are thrown to the sideline that are in the top 25, or was for the past 5 years.

So many people love extremes. Please name for me the top 25 team that doesn't have some plays that exploit the edge? We can have more than one type of run play. All the best teams do. Does that negate them having great lines or also being successful up the middle, no. Good grief.
