We have witnessed some of the worst communicators to hold national office in the last few decades. Reagan was the last great communicator. Clinton connected with people in a way I can't fully understand.

Both Trump and Biden are terrible. Trump (to his credit) was usually speaking extemporaneously when he made us cringe. Biden does it with scripted, rehearsed speeches displayed on the teleprompter. I think it would be much worse if Biden's handlers allowed him to answer questions. They are smart to keep him limited.

Clinton was a pretty solid speaker. Reagan was undeniably great in that area. Bush II was horrendous. Obama became a much better and more relaxed speaker towards the end of his presidency. Much less dependent on the teleprompter. Trump was an awful speaker because he spoke without notes, facts or any education on the topics. Biden has always been an awful public speaker, but his cognitive decline has made it worse.

Agreed. Obama's default of filling the conversational voids bothered me. Bush 1 was a disconnected speaker. Clinton was his opposite.

I routinely speak in front of large audiences, both with and without notes. There is an art to it. If I spoke like either Trump or Biden I would be booted from the rotation.
