TOPIC: The Masters may put a rules official with every group, instead of one on every hole, as it does now.
ONE TAKE: Of course they should. And then they should go one step further. They should become the first tournament to relieve players of the burden of keeping score at all. Why in the world do professional golfers have to keep their own score? Does LeBron James have to keep the score in his head as he plays? Does Dale Earnhardt Jr. have to keep track of how many laps he's driven?
"Sorry, Junior. Put down the beer. You didn't win. Turns out you drove only 499 laps."
Every single shot tour players hit is recorded by the official scorer who walks with their group. And by satellite. And seen by fans. And caddies. And millions at home.
Name another sport in which the athlete can be disqualified for not keeping perfect track of his score. Name a single other sport in which jabronis at home can call in violations from their couches -- like the one on Tiger Woods at this Masters -- when neither the press, the rules officials nor the players noticed.
"Sorry, Mr. Jeter. Turns out in the third inning, you didn't get hit by that pitch after all. We have to start all over."
