The Masters

The weather forecast is for sunny, dry weather all week long which could make for firm, fast golf course. That might bring some of the short hitters back into play and turn it into what it has been in the past - a putting contest.

I failed to mention Goosen in my post. He has the game to win it. He seems to be able to ignore everything going on around him. He has the length and when he is putting well, just forget about catching him.

one thing to consider about lengthening the course...they also narrowed the landing areas....plus on some holes, things that these guys could carry before, are now in play. So while on the face of things, the length looks to favor some of the longer hitters, i still think short game and putting will be the key.

that said, it's hard to go against Tiger....but i wouldn't be suprised if Phil made a run. but he needs to start off strong. If it were to come down to him chasing Tiger on Sunday, he has no chance. If he's tied in or in the lead, he's got a shot. His short game and putting could be enough.

The real tournament starts sunday on the back nine. These first three rounds are just setting them up for sunday. Majors are brutal for these guys anymore.

I was out there yesterday. With what they have done to the course, I think it's going to make it really tough for anybody to go low and make a late charge by shooting a 30 or 31 on the way in on Sunday.

I agree, and I think that makes having three or four consistently good rounds more important than ever.
The old saying, the tournament doesn't start until the back nine Sunday is still true of course, but if you are more than three or four back Sunday morning, don't think you're gonna go six low from amen corner in and take the jacket....

By the way GA, I'm totally jealous! The Masters is at the top of my list to go see, yet I've never been.

You ought to get your name into the Practice Round ticket lottery. It's easy to do and every few years you get lucky and can buy tickets. If you've never been you ought to go once just to see it. It's one of the few places that you'll ever go that is actually better than advertised. You actually find youself paying more attention to the course than to who is playing. It's crazy how well kept that place is.

If you're stuck at work, this is pretty neat. Go to the link below and click on "Amen Corner Live". They are doing a live webcast from the 11th, 12th and 13th holes of the Masters. The quality is very good.

I always find myself paying more attention to the egg salad sandwiches in the food tents. :focus:

Round 2.
The course is drier, the greens faster, the pins a little tougher.
I'll be surprised if anyone goes lower than -4 today.

Tiger's in a pretty good spot. Of the I think 18 players in front of him, only 3 are more than two shots clear.

Smokedog, we'll see about Veej. I think he probably comes back a little over the next two days. His putter is about like a summer day in San Francisco... Hot one second, cold the next...

The course looks great!

By the way, will someone please tell David Duval to just quit the game for awhile? He is +19 right now, almost midway through Round II. Tied for last with a guy born in 1937.

What a shame. He looked so promising for awhile. Lost all that weight after going through some sort of emotional self-discovery thing (he wasn't sick, was he? Did I miss something along the way?. He needs to just regear everything and start over.

I thought Duval just lost his nerve when Tiger came on the scene. I never liked Duval anyway. I always thought he was responsible for bringing Dale Earnahrdt fans into the golfing community.

Duval actually became the world #1 AFTER Tiger came on the scene. He had some back problems in 2001, 2002 and also supposedly broke up with his longtime girlfriend and it really messed him up.

Supposedly, he's now married and feeling much better, but his game is still really inconsistent. What does he care though?? Between the winnings and the Nike contract, he's basically set for life. :shades:

Vijay's +2 today thru 5.
Chad Campbell had the hot hand so far today. -5 on his round, he leads right now at -6 overall...

The wind is up. Scoring will be tough this afternoon.

Lefty's even today thru 14. Remains -2

Tiger with a birdie and two bogeys thru 4 is +1

If Freddie could make a putt, he'd have a 2 shot lead right now. I'm always leery of people that use long putters.

Great performance by Phil today. He just outlasted everybody.
