The meltdown on UF messageboards

Kiffin is a proven failure as a HC. Damn good OC though. Maybe he's more ready to be a HC now. Who knows.

Maybe. But I think the guy is a career coordinator. He is like Charlie Weis. If I were Kifgin, I would just accept being an OC. Much less stress than a HC and the pay is good.

Having said that, I hope he gets another big HC job so he can fail again.

I tend to agree. He needs somebody like Saban to keep him in check. There's a reason he's not allowed to talk to the media. Who knows when or if he'll ever grow up enough to run a program on his own. He'll get a shot soon, but it would be a huge risk for a P5 program.

Kiffin would have done great @USC except for the sanctions put on the team from the Carroll years. imho. They were crazy to fire him.

Winning smooths many hurt feelings. LSU would take Saban back tomorrow.

Every team in the nation would fire their coach if they thought they had a chance to get Saban. No brainer...hell I'd fire the general, fulmer, and majors on the same day if I had a chance at Saban.

The funny thing to me is how many UF fans were blaming them losing to us on having to play their backup QB Appleby. Apparently they didn't realize he actually had a pretty good game against us and the score would've been much worse had Del Rio started.

Appleby is much better than Del Rio throwing deep.

Del Rio has an injured throwing shoulder, and will miss the South Carolina game, perhaps longer.

Starting WR Tyrie Cleveland and C Cam Dillard may be out for the season also.

So your coaching staff is on notice less than two years in, while you're in the driver's seat in the East, coming off a SECe Division title. Meanwhile, our staff isn't, almost 4 full years in, while needing Florida to lose to have a chance to win a putrid SECe, having won absolutely nothing thus far. I'd say that defines these two programs quite nicely.

We whipped them though and have played the toughest part of our schedule. They are looking at 2 defeats and a potential 1-4 finish to their season.

"Putrid SECe". High marks for accuracy. One of the east programs will have to recruit at a high level for 3 or 4 years in a row. We all have an occasional good QB, RB or receiver. Bama has a great one in every class. They stack em high and deep. Until that happens, we are all just slap fighting to be the baddest MFer on the short bus.

You guys have recruited at a high level for 20 years now. Where's that gotten you? The coaching disparity from the west to the east is the difference.

So other than obviously trying to save the redshirt of the two freshmen, is Coach Mac just being stubborn by not playing Appleby or...?

As between the two, Del Rio had more command of the basic offensive scheme.

I believe we held off on the other two because they lack any college experience and, yes, we wanted to save the RS.

As I said elsewhere, I'd prefer we keep the RS status if possible. It seems highly unlikely to me that we can beat LSU, no matter which of the three start or play, and so the odds that its worth giving up RS status are very low. Better to keep them red shirted and just give up the ghost on the SECe this year. Move on, knowing they can play another year, when hopefully we've turned things around on the Oline.

I understand why he might be tempted to do it, if he really thought it would make the difference and let us win the East, just out of his own self interest. But LSU only lost to 'bama 10-0, so I don't see how Florida can hang with them at all, no matter who is the QB.

He completely turned Crompton around.

You don't have to like him, but he is one of the best offensive coordinators around.

He may be one of the best offensive coordinators (which I think is a stretch) but we already know how he is as a HC.

Disregard the fact that he has nothing but 5* talent across the board; have you noticed that when Bama struggles on offense it's when Kiffin does what Kiffin does and tries to get too cute and pass happy?

Then what happens? Saban reels him back in and they pound the rock down their opponents throat. I watched the guy call two run plays for 5-7 yards each for a first and goal, and follow it up with 3 pass plays ultimately settling for a FG against TAMU.

He lacks the discipline to be a good HC and that has been proven multiple times. If he wouldn't have gotten a chance to coach at Bama he would not be getting the praise he gets now.

You know who else was a "great" O-coordinator at Bama? Ya boy Mac at UF. How does his offense look now?

Also, do you remember when Kiffin's big thing at USC was going for 2 after the first TD score? Real genius that guy.
