The Michelle Wie charade continues...

The backlash against Wie is something of a mystery to me. I mean she's a nice, softspoken and articulate kid. She is blessed with tremendous talent. She doesn't talk a ten pound bag of ego to the media. When she's not playing golf, she lives as normal a life as is possible for her.

What's not to like about this kid?...

I agree. I think some of the negative sentiment is due to her Dad's handling of her career. He has at times bordered on turning her into a sideshow.

How is she undeserving? She hasn't asked for any of it and is prodded on by the marketing machine that is Nike and the dire need on the part of the LPGA for any marketing angle. She is easily the most marketable player that the LPGA has and they are bent on taking advantage of it.

She's extremely young and has had phenomenal success in LPGA majors for her age. She has many of the advantages Tiger had when he burst onto the scene, without the otherworldly putter. She hammers the ball, hits high floating irons. She believes in herself and her ability and probably enters those events believing that she can compete (remember when Tiger got hammered every time he entered a pro event as an amateur). Great athletes are often such because of their unwavering belief in themselves. Make no mistake, she is a phenomenal talent and is one of the few with the mental capacity to capitalize on it.

How is she undeserving? Well, the fact that she can't even compete with her own gender right now proves that she is. She had to pull out of an event because she almost lost the ability to participate on her own tour. Yeah, that looks like a determined athlete who is primed to make the cut at the Deere. Give me a break.

She finished in the top 5 of 3 LPGA majors last year. I think the "she needs to prove she can compete on the LPGA" horse has left the barn.

...and why does it matter if she plays on a sponsor's exemption at the John Deere? Obviously the sponsor wants her there for a reason.

She competes. She just doesn't win, and the longer she goes without winning, the more pressure that builds for her to win. Personally, I could see her turning in to another Jennifer Capriati burnout. I get the feeling that her career is more about her father's desires than Michelle's desires.

Sadly, that may very well be true.

The tough thing to remember is that she's 17. There's really nobody to compare her to at this point. She's going through what every teenager goes through, but in front of cameras.

she's not the mental midget Capriati is. Additionally, Wie's talent gap on the field dwarfs any gap Capriati might have had.

She appears mentally tough enough to get through the burnout. Remember, Tiger's father was even worse about prodding his prodigy.

True, but Tiger was going through all of this at age 21 after an extensive amateur career and a year at Stanford. Wie is having to learn everything on the fly.

Wie's troubles were compounded when her playing partners in a pro-am event on Monday at Bulle Rock lodged a complaint, prompting LPGA Commissioner Carolyn Bivens to meet with Wie's father, B.J., and agent, Greg Nared.
Although the nature of the dispute was unclear, Wie was adamant she had been cooperative with her playing partners.

I wonder if they asked for a refund since they probably beat her.

Wow... That's a first. She's not even a relative of yours. But it doesn't surprise me, she is underage.

Luckily for me the age of consent is 16 here in Alabama. If not for that I could be looking at some serious time.
