From 2017 to 2020, whenever someone posted a gripe about Donald Trump on here, a frequent reply would be some variation of,
"President Trump is what you get when you nominate Hillary Clinton."
It's a ploy to shift responsibility away from your own party's choice.
In that same sense, Trump is highly relevant to how we arrived at "President Joe Biden." In 3 prior presidential bids, Biden's campaign never got off the ground. Biden had never won a single delegate. In 2020, he was only nominated by Democrats because he was perceived to be the most likely Democrat to beat Trump.... and then Biden won the presidency only because he was facing the one Republican he could actually beat in the general election.
We never have a "President Biden" without first having a "President Trump."
