The Most Embarrassing Performance Since Wade

I watched the web stream of the first half. I left at halftime for my game - our company team. It looked like we had them overmatched and were only up by 8, because we were coasting. I couldn't believe the final score. I am guessing our offense looked like it did against Butler in Nov., 2006, in the preseason NIT, the two UK games in 2009, and the USC game last year. We were completely schooled by the other teams' discipline and pace. All of that seems odd, given that the opponent apparently uses Bruce's style of play. I have not actually seen one minute of the second half.

I completely agree. I heard Blob say that one of their guards would be an All-American in Division I. He's a moron.
I don't think that is what he said, if I recall. I thought he said he was an All American in their division not Division 1.

When I was in school, I saw our Wade Houston led team lose at home to Univ of Arkansas Pine Bluff. That was the year we went 5-22. This one may sting worse because it was less expected.

It was Arkansas-Little Rock, but the point stands. That was part of back to back losses, with Western Carolina being the other one.

That was f-ing pathetic. I have rarely been that embarrassed to watch a "performance" by a UT team since getting drilled by Western Carolina and Frankie King in 1993. I can't even begin to discuss the problems I saw tonight, but I'll hit the highlights.

1. Shooting. I am certain we were less than 50% on free throws and 20% on threes. Unacceptable. I can take the 3s being missed as something that just happens, but free throws were utterly horrendus.

2. If those Mickey Mouse guards were eating us up for the entire game, we stand no shot against anyone with a pulse at PG. I can't believe an undersized DII team beat us by 15 because of two guards. Unreal.

3. I have said for two years that McBee should never have gotten a scholarship, yet every yokel wanted a local kid (just like football). Here's a hint; local kids don't play any harder because they love the T, they usually just suck.

4.I have rarely seen a team collectively crap their pants as UT did tonight. I have no idea where the leadership will come from, but it wasn't anywhere to be found tonight.

5. I miss JP. He would've slithered through that zone all night and no one did that tonight. I think there are guys capable of doing so, although nobody bothered.

6. I think it's pretty obvious we need to get the ball to Tobias in the middle of the floor. We were much more effective when he had the ball in his hands (the few times he did.)

All in all, a wretched performance. I hope they are forced to watch the game as soon as they hit the locker room and have a midnight chew out session. I've known a few coaches to pull this and this effort deserves such a treatment.

As for the future, I will hope that tonight was an anomaly and certain players will not see the floor much anymore.

Well maybe you should cry about it...Oh wait you already did that :eek:lol: The game mean't NOTHING...Might have been the best thing that could've happened to this young team....Now they can work harder and make some adjustments..Maybe it will light a fire under their butts now.

I'll go with losing by 30 points to a Steve Alford coached mid major in the NCAA Tournament as more embarrassing than a loss in a game that doesn't count.

That's a game I will probably never forget. The most embarrassing example of basketball that we have ever had on the hill. Especially, with the talent difference in our favor. Last night was sad, but hopefully this will wake up this group and they will understand that they have to play together and play with some energy if they are to have a successful season.

The effort last night and the offensive execution made you wonder if Wade was the visiting star coach of the past who took over the team last night.

This is an exhibition game. It doesn't count. Syracuse lost to LeMoyne College last season and it didn't affect them. Put it this way, a DII school is more likely to upset a upper-tier D1 program in an exhibition because the coach is experimenting with the lineup and that's the ONLY chance a DII school has a chance to play a DI program --- unlike mid-majors who do so periodically throughout the year. I don't see it as a big deal. Is it embarrassing? Not really because it will never be in the record book.

Wonder how we know that this is the first time in program history that we've lost to a DII team? It isn't on our season record, but it will be in the record book and it is a new low for exhibition games. If you don't think this game was an embarrassment, I don't know what it would take to be embarrassing.

Easy ladies! It was a scrimmage! Man, if some of you guys were at practice every day you would be sick all the time. Yeah, we are young at spots. Yeah, we have a lot of distractions. Yeah, we looked totally disinterested. I mean, completely disinterested. And yeah, INDY looked very interested and seemed to be quite good. We will lose some games early and probably be a pretty good team late. Oh yeah, Hopson played what? 9 minutes. Certainly need him on the floor. Free throw shooting? Matter of concentration. Is the guard position of concern? Has been from the very start. So, guys just relax a little. Maybe the young guns eyes are WIDE OPEN now....

Except it was on SportsCenter for the nation to see.

How can it not be an embarrassment? It wasn't like they lost at the buzzer. Vols got DRILLED.

did anyone watch the game?

seemed like our guys didn't expect indy to play zone and we never adjusted to it. just kept jacking 3's like they wanted us to. also the guards weren't "mickey mouse" guards as some goon posted earlier. one if not both were pre season DII all americans. not just some chumps who completely suck. what i saw was a lack of leadership by anyone on the team to step up and say quit shooting all the freaking 3's and lets drive the zone and get it inside. not until we were down 15 with 5 minutes to play anyway and by that time it was too late. been hearing alot about how scotty is asking more of himself, yada yada yada. let's see it! don't be frontrunners boys.

getting beat by a D2 team is just wrong!!!!!

But...it is pre-season and Syracuse got beat last year or year before last and still had a GREAT year! Don't fret until the real bullets start flying!

Or perhaps the team is not in focus because the coach is out of focus thinking about NCAA violations.

Of course it's not a loss to a bad team, but the 102-44 loss to UK in the SEC tourney 93' was pretty bad. Perhaps that was retribution for the defeat down at TBA.
