It was Arkansas-Little Rock, but the point stands. That was part of back to back losses, with Western Carolina being the other one. When I was in school, I saw our Wade Houston led team lose at home to Univ of Arkansas Pine Bluff. That was the year we went 5-22. This one may sting worse because it was less expected.
That was f-ing pathetic. I have rarely been that embarrassed to watch a "performance" by a UT team since getting drilled by Western Carolina and Frankie King in 1993. I can't even begin to discuss the problems I saw tonight, but I'll hit the highlights.
1. Shooting. I am certain we were less than 50% on free throws and 20% on threes. Unacceptable. I can take the 3s being missed as something that just happens, but free throws were utterly horrendus.
2. If those Mickey Mouse guards were eating us up for the entire game, we stand no shot against anyone with a pulse at PG. I can't believe an undersized DII team beat us by 15 because of two guards. Unreal.
3. I have said for two years that McBee should never have gotten a scholarship, yet every yokel wanted a local kid (just like football). Here's a hint; local kids don't play any harder because they love the T, they usually just suck.
4.I have rarely seen a team collectively crap their pants as UT did tonight. I have no idea where the leadership will come from, but it wasn't anywhere to be found tonight.
5. I miss JP. He would've slithered through that zone all night and no one did that tonight. I think there are guys capable of doing so, although nobody bothered.
6. I think it's pretty obvious we need to get the ball to Tobias in the middle of the floor. We were much more effective when he had the ball in his hands (the few times he did.)
All in all, a wretched performance. I hope they are forced to watch the game as soon as they hit the locker room and have a midnight chew out session. I've known a few coaches to pull this and this effort deserves such a treatment.
As for the future, I will hope that tonight was an anomaly and certain players will not see the floor much anymore.
I'll go with losing by 30 points to a Steve Alford coached mid major in the NCAA Tournament as more embarrassing than a loss in a game that doesn't count.
This is an exhibition game. It doesn't count. Syracuse lost to LeMoyne College last season and it didn't affect them. Put it this way, a DII school is more likely to upset a upper-tier D1 program in an exhibition because the coach is experimenting with the lineup and that's the ONLY chance a DII school has a chance to play a DI program --- unlike mid-majors who do so periodically throughout the year. I don't see it as a big deal. Is it embarrassing? Not really because it will never be in the record book.

Wonder how we know that this is the first time in program history that we've lost to a DII team? It isn't on our season record, but it will be in the record book and it is a new low for exhibition games. If you don't think this game was an embarrassment, I don't know what it would take to be embarrassing.
