The most haunting voices in music

I was watching Jimmy Fallon last night and Chris Cornell was on the show. And, listening to his voice, I started to wonder. Which singers have the most haunting voices in music.

Like Cornell, there's just something about his voice. When he sings black days. haunting, is the best word that I can come up with.

I was also thinking, Ralph Stanley when he sang,"O' death.

What are some other singers that fit what I'm talking about?

It's hard not to agree with Cornell... That's some incredible vocal range and always well controlled. His duet with Eddie Vedder on 'Hunger Strike' would have to be considered haunting.

The Icelandic chick from Sigur Ros

...bruh thats a guy

but srsly, Bjork has quite the haunting voice, so does the gal from the Cocteau Twins, PJ Harvey, and the gal from Portishead...tom waits' voice can be haunting at times...Tim Buckley's range made for a haunting voice...his son Jeff had a 'hauntingly beautiful' voice.

the most haunting singer Ive ever heard is Amede Ardoin...cajun singer from the 30s, some say he was the pioneer of zydeco (think blues combined with french folk). Theres not a lot of material on him...but you won't find a more haunting voice. Word is he was beaten to death after a show cause he asked a white lady to wipe his brow during a performance...obviously the locals didnt like that.

Robert Smith - the cure

Jim Morrison

Stevie nicks

James Hatfield on some of metallica's older songs. For whom the bell tolls and One.

And this maybe a weird choice but I'll add Otis Redding to the list also.

Definitely Robert Johnson and Annie Lennox

That dude sucked..I guess I'm not cool enough to understand why anybody thinks that was good. But really to each his own. That's what makes the world go around.

I've seen a few in this thread I agree with: Layne Staley, Chris Cornell, Keith Whitley, chick from the Cranberries.

And I'll add Randy Travis and Billy Corgan.

I thought of putting Randy Travis. That's a good choice.
