From the above link:

According to a police report, Mr. McMichael, 64, said he saw Mr. Arbery running through his neighborhood and thought that he looked like the suspect in a rash of nearby break-ins. Mr. McMichael and his son Travis, 34, armed themselves and began chasing him in a truck.

The guy in the white shirt is jogging. I'd guess that the truck had passed him and then stopped to wait on him.

I wonder if he knew they were armed?

They went after him. He was on foot. They were in a truck. They should be punished.

Was he running Towards Them in the video???

According to other reports they had already cut him off once and he turned and ran the other way. In the video he looks like he tries to run around the truck and since the person filming didn't catch it all, I think the driver came around the front and confronted him with the shotgun. I think at that point he switched from flight to fight and tried to disarm the guy. If they had been chasing him a while even if he was an avid jogger like his family said he wsa probably getting tired.

They armed themselves and went after him. Stupid.

He grabbed the shotgun and tried to wrestle it away from the redneck and got shot in the process. Stupid X 2.

It's not stupid if he assumed he was going to get shot anyway. And let's see, some rednecks chasing you down in a truck with guns in southern Georgia.....yeah clearly he should have just assumed they just wanted to talk.

Not justifying anything. If it were me, I'd still be running, through the bushes and the brambles where a rabbit couldn't go. Definitely where a truck couldn't go.

The dad used to work for the DA's office, so folks keep recusing and it keeps getting kicked down the road. It needs to be put in front of a grand jury so that the DA's office isn't solely responsible for charges.

Arming oneself and going into pursuit mode based on "suspicion" is a very bad plan.

It looks like there was a struggle for the weapon. That is going to very much matter in how things play out at trial. (which is where it should be heading as you pointed out)

I'm not exactly sure he knew they had guns before that point. They said they had tried to stop him and he turned and ran the other way, but I don't know if they had shown their guns at that point. He may have thought it was just some rednecks trying to mess with him. In the video he runs around the right side of the truck and I think the driver came around and confronted him and that's when he tried to wrestle it away. He may have thought he could just go around and keep running.

We'll never know what he thought. We should be careful not to put our thoughts in anybody's heads as we weren't there. I have no sympathy for those two in the truck, their actions are what precipitated this tragedy.

Especially when you're specifically told not to by the 911 operator.
