Hillary getting the Dem nod makes the election a referendum on her. Firing up the GOP base will happen with Hillary on the ticket. That in itself won't win Ohio. Dems unwilling to vote for Hillary will make the difference.

Agreed. But I wonder who would have a better chance of beating the GOP candidate - Hillary or Obama? Hillary's a galvanizing figure, but she also has a political machine behind her. And she could convince a lot of moderate females to vote for her, which could be the difference.

but there are also plenty of moderate and even dem females (and males for that matter) who would never consider voting for her

Dems will vote for the dem candidate regardless of who it is. And your pt about moderates might be true, but she will be the first legitimate female candidate, and I think there's a good chance the historical significance could cause a lot of people to change their mind, especially if they start to see a different side of Hillary.

The difference is that when Bill Clinton triangulated, people bought it. I think Hillary comes off as way more transparent.

That is because it is much more favorable to look through her, looking at her would make a man want to puke.

Is there really anybody left that buys the notion that Hillary is a moderate?

honestly, I wasn't really referring to her politics but rather her personality - mainly, that she can be likeable. We'll see what the machine can do.

In terms of her being moderate, I really don't know, and guess that one is a judgement and will always be relative.

i understand that she has now had some facial work done. that'll make her dramatically more appealing to the moderates she needs.

You are 100% correct. Was just an observation.

I hear ya.

And in all seriousness, I think a lot of voters base their decision on appearance, mostly b/c they don't know much about the candidates and just go with their gut. And women have it much harder than men do in this area. Men don't have to be handsome, as long as they're "presidential." But it would be nearly impossible to elect a completely qualified woman who was really ugly. (for the record, I don't think Hillary is attractive, but I don't think she's that bad for a woman her age).

I would say the bold part is right and on a related note. Is Mitt Romney the most "presidential" looking mf'er to show up in years?

Yes, absolutely, and he kinda scares me that way. Whoops - there I go being superficial.

John Edwards is way prettier than Mitt Romney

I ain't going into prettier, just presidential. And I disagree, Mitt has the whole firm looking jaw thing and all american looking deal going on. John Edwards looks like an ambulance chaser.

point taken, how about this, "John Edwards likes to think he's prettier than (insert candidate here)"
