Makes no sense that they’d show a game on ESPN news lol
1988 Vols started 0-6 then won 5 in a row to finish 5-6. 1989 Vols went 11-1.

I'm pretty sure Miami was #2 that year heading into the Sugar Bowl, and since the #1 team lost that day, Miami would have won the national championship had Tennessee not drilled them.The 5 game winning streak was really the point in time that TN football moved to a higher level. The 1985/'86 Sugar Bowl was a false start (and what really made that team special was their domination of both #1 Auburn with Heistman Trophy guy Bo Jackson and Miami with Jimmy Johnson lobbying for National Championship votes). TN didn't have a losing season after 1988 for nearly 20 years.
