The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

It's ridiculous to spend millions on women's basketball coaches. No way should TN pay off Holly with a million or two, pay a buyout for an established coach, and then give the new coach a multi-million dollar contact. It's freaking women's basketball. Many, if not most, high school boys teams would pound the national champion.

The Lady Vols are Pat Summitt. No highly successful coach will come here.

Can anybody name one women's program that has ever had more than one highly successful head coach? Chances are, Pat's 85% WP and Holly's 74% WP is the highest of any pair of coaches at any school... at least in the post AIAW era.

The best thing to do is to find a young up and comer with a hard driving personality. Bring them on as the coach in waiting. Have Holly stay on for another year or two as the HC and then let her hand over the whistle to the new guy. These girls need a no-nonsense type to intimidate the **** **** out of them.

The sport hasn’t really been around long enough to have that. But we are at a P5 school and can pay that type of money. We are the UK of women’s basketball. Have to get it right. Talk is that Holly’s buyout is about $600k. She makes about 40% of what Schaefer makes at MSU, less than half what the UL coach makes, and so on and so forth. We can pay the money.

The solution to the problem is most certainly not to let the Lady Vols program die on the vine. I think we owe it to Pat to try a little harder than shrugging our shoulders as Holly goes into a downward spiral.

I think that Holly's buyout is reduced after next season.

TN gave Bruce a million dollars when when he violated his agreement and was entitled to nothing. I suspect that Holly will be given a generous parting gift in excess of what's contractually obligated.

They did that to Bruce to avoid a lawsuit. All they have to do with Holly is create a position in the AD as a consultant and pay her a salary. That will keep her involved and pay her (albeit much lower) a salary in the future.

The Lady Vols are not the Kentucky of women's basketball. The LVs are about 4 year players of the highest character that graduate.

The LVs are more like Indiana. A great program with a great coach (Bobby Knight - Pat Summitt), but simply better than average without that once in a generation outstanding person in charge.

Lol I love that Bob Knight reference, here’s the funniest halftime speech of all time.

How did you come to that conclusion with the comparison to UK? Has nothing to do with “4 year players of the highest character.” How many one and dones have you seen in women’s basketball?

The LV program is a blue blood program. UConn has come on, but it’s one of the premier brands in the game. It is falling now, and it needs someone else to regain its brand.

Going thru an old Barnes thread from 4 years ago. So many drive by posts from football forum regulars saying it’d be a bad hire.

Then you have basketball forum regulars Stoked, VolSportsFan and ACE all saying it’d be a good hire.

Well done boys!

As annoying as most of the new threads are around here I’ll admit that there have been a few of the new guys who have been making good posts. Hopefully we can add a few new regulars with all of this traffic.

VolFreakJosh has a pretty good thread right now and he seems to know a little bit about college basketball.

SalVolinus is another one that’s been making some good posts IMO.

Hope they stick around!

Hard to argue the merits of some new blood, especially when you consider the recent and curious amount of interest in Holly and chickball on this thread.
:) Smack dab in the middle of arguably the most exciting time in our roundball history.

Don't anybody get mad - I put a smiley face on it.

Thank you for your sentiment.

If you were a Regular around here you’d know that this thread isn’t about any 1 particular subject. You are welcome to stick around and hangout, we could use some new blood and you seem like an okay guy. Just know that this thread is the third installment of a very long-running (4 or 5 years atleast) discussion amongst the regular posters of the VolNation Basketball Forum.

We talk about everything in here. College sports, pro sports, music, 3-on-3 church league basketball and just life in general. Very tight-knit brethren, we look out for each other a lot more than the guys in the football or recruiting forums do.

Also—any references to Donnie Tyndall, Bass Proshop, Step Ladders or Duke Basketball are grounds for expulsion.

From a financial perspective spending a lot on a women’s coach is not a good investment. Geno makes more per year than their program generates in revenue. How stupid. NC State is Top 10 team and they pay their coach $460k per year. That is about right.

Thanks for the useless history lesson, but I have posted in this thread a few times over the years. And I don't remember any of yours, either.

I disrespected Barnes a lot by always saying he was just a good coach. Didn't think he could build up this far. Knew he wasn't trash like some. But dang, he is something else.
