The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

If Rick Barnes and Tennessee need any more motivation for next weekend, they should clip the 5-minute segment that just aired on College GameDay and put it on loop in the locker room this week. Seth Greenberg, Jay Bilas, and Rece Davis just called our game as “the worst officiated game in the history of college basketball” and basically implied that the only reason Duke lost is because of the officiating.

Of course, they did their standard “not to take anything away from Tennessee” while trying to do exactly that. Just gross.

Ah the ole qualifier saying you're not doing the very thing you're doing.

Not great, but Ole Miss kind of proved the regular season is overrated last year.

Playing a top notch non conference schedule isn't overrated. That's how Ole Miss got to the tournament with a mediocre SEC record. We don't have the luxury. We have to finish with a good SEC record. Better get started now.

Completely unrelated to his comment, but I think it’s jjj’s turn for a big game tomorrow. Should have a significant height advantage over whoever is guarding him and be able to get that midrange jumper whenever he wants. Needs to knock them down, or more ideally just go to the rim but don’t see that happening. Either way, feel like he’s due.

Well, Josiah also said this exact thing after we beat Alabama and then we proceeded to get beat in back to back games at Kentucky and in College Station lol. I love the fire though. Just sucks that this team feels this way about it’s own fanbase.

I don't take that as a shot at the entire fan base (which as we know is quite large and includes all sorts). Probably just offhand comments responding to things he heard. Those are counterbalanced by other points in which JJJ has acknowledged that the team has been disappointed by it's performance at times and by these quotes from Uros.

They would like to be supported, not the “this team sucks”, “this team will choke again”, “Barnes can’t get it done”, “wish JJJ would move on” etc etc etc. Most of these guys are aware losing a game to

Vanderbilt or Missouri stinks and is disappointing, believe me they feel it too, but it’s real easy to pile on people when they’re down and then support them when they are up.

Oh, I understand the feelings. I’m on social media. There was a lot of dogpiling on this team after they lost a few games, particularly after the “greatest Vol team ever” narrative started to unfairly spread. I can understand the frustrations by the fanbase, but it’s unfair to the team to air those out on social media for the world to see. These are still “kids” in many ways.

That's what fans do. There's a pretty easy way to keep it from happening too.

Not really all that surprising. I mentioned this possibility in another thread. I think Pember probably enjoyed the attention of being a big fish in a small pond after 2 years of being virtually invisible at a high-major (Tennessee). He can play at the HM level, but he isn't going to be an automatic starter and 20 ppg guy at that level. He's struggled against a lot of UNCA's best competition, particularly UNC, Arkansas, and UCLA.

Be better then, criticism is fine and so is disappointment, but the level in which some people stoop to is not fine. If they do then they aren’t true fans, whether they realize it or not.

I'm all for you shouldn't criticize kids on SM like Twitter, fb etc..... I think it's as dumb as tweeting an athlete about losing a bet( they don't care) but imo message boards are fair game that's what they're for, ans you have to actively seek them out.

Yeah, IMO there's a line between being disappointed/frustrated verses acting like a spoiled fan base that thinks it has some birthright of dominating sports (i.e., tweeting at players, etc). I assume you're referring to consistent winning as the way to quell criticism, but I don't think that is "pretty easy" in the world of college athletics.

Pretty much or at least winning the ones you should as the post I referred to was talking about Mizzou and Vandy losses specifically.
