Just speaking for myself, I would have 0 faith that my best educated guess on the opening game site would be correct. If you try to do it before Selection Sun, I hope you are 100% okay with potentially no Vols game. Unless you are planning something extravagant/complex, I would think you'd have enough time to whip together something after after SS.Kind of a random question, but how likely is it that we are going to be in Lexington or Raleigh for the first two rounds of the tournament? All the other sites seem far less likely, but I guess anything is possible.
I’m planning a bachelor party for a buddy of mine who is a big Tennessee fan and thought about going to either place to see TN play, but I don’t know if we can really afford to just wait and book accommodations after selection Sunday.

Good point on the cost. Yeah, in light of this info, it sounds like you guys will be able to make the most of it regardless. Wish I could speak to Lexington and Raleigh; I don't think I've ever spent time in either place.I guess I just worry about hotels/flights being a lot more expensive just 3 days before the tournament begins. I’ve talked with him about it and he’d be okay if Tennessee didn’t play because neither of us have been to any NCAAT game before so it would just be a new experience.
Lexington generally feels like a more interesting place than Raleigh to tour, so I may just throw caution to the wind and book Lexington. He’s a big whiskey guy and I think he’d enjoy the distilleries around there as an additional activity.
Was there a lot of variety in how deep into the season the first loss was? I wonder if those teams that didn’t even make the tournament lost earlier than the others. It was a topic mentioned on Basilly-o's postgame show, but was never really brought back up, so I did the research, myself. Matt brought up the talking point of wondering how the last undefeated teams in CBB each year over the last 10 have finished the season.
Here's the numbers and it's pretty surprising as there is a total array of outcomes.
2024 - Houston lost in the S16
2023 - Purdue lost in the 1st rd
2022 - Baylor lost in the 2nd rd
2021 - Gonzaga lost in the championship
2020 - No NCAAT
2019 - Virginia won the championship
2018 - Arizona St. lost in the 1st rd
2017 - Gonzaga lost in the championship
2016 - SMU was ineligible, but South Carolina didn't even make the NCAAT, and lost in 2nd rd of the NIT...lol
2015 - Kentucky lost in the F4
2014 - Wichita St. lost in 2nd rd
So, 10 years of results, and every outcome possible except losing in the E8 has occurred for the final unbeaten team in college basketball. Kind of wild.
I've been to Lexington a couple of times and it's not a bad spot. I think there's plenty enough to do over a weekend. Tournament or large sporting events are great when you’re not emotionally invested in the outcome!I guess I just worry about hotels/flights being a lot more expensive just 3 days before the tournament begins. I think it’s pretty risky to bet that we play in Lexington. I’d say at best it’s a 50/50
Idk what kinda crowd you have to plan for.
I know the area very well. I can give you advice if you let me know what kind of crowd you have. If they are nerds or like to party or whatever
If bourbon and distilleries are your thing and you’re staying in Lexington then you for sure have to take a short 30 min drive over to Frankfort to tour Buffalo Trace. It’s in my hometown and it’s on every bourbon enthusiast’s bucket list. Castle & Key is also in Frankfort. Then you can hit Four Roses and Wild Turkey in Lawerenceburg, then Woodford Reserve in Versailles on your way back to Lexington.Yeah, it’s a fairly big risk, but I think with the need to plan for PTO and scheduling the accommodations and flights it’s a big risk financially to wait till the Sunday night before the tournament begins. It’s kind of a pick your poison on what risk to accept.
In regard to the crowd, we’re all in our early 30s, wouldn’t say any of us are huge partiers but we do like to drink socially, which is why I mentioned the distilleries. Obviously, we’re all big college sports fans. Most of us TN grads, and there are only 5 of us. There are a couple of us that are big ole nerds, but not the whole crowd haha.

Ok for the Bourbon trail stops, in Lexington you are close to Woodford, Wild Turkey and Four Roses. My recommendation is Woodford Reserve (which also happens to be my preferred Bourbon). Well, that and Blantons.
You will be missing Keeneland by just a couple weeks, which stinks.
Red Mile is basically a Casino. Has a Sportsbook too. I doubt any horse races will be going on then. Too early in the season.
If you like outdoors/hiking stuff, the Red River Gorge is awesome and about 1 hour away from Lexington.
Shockingly, there is no Top Golf in Lexington. but there is an Activate Games. I went a couple times. It's actually awesome lol.
Around the Rupp Arena area is Lex Live. It's a fine place to visit on Gameday etc..
If you like to drink local beers, I recommend Country Boy & IMO the best beer on earth is KY Bourbon Barrel Ale.
Distillery District is cool. Very casual to hang out and eat/drink. And The Burl is cross the street which has a Barcade and has live music.
To eat, I think Drake's is a good Bachelor party type spot. Tin Roof. There is a Jeff Ruby in Lexington if ya'll wanna do something like that while there.
I am missing stuff, but that is off the top of my head.
Oh. And if you are into this kind of thing, I don't like Strip Clubs, but I've been dragged to The Spearmint Rhino a few times. And it is a good strip club. As far as strip clubs go, anyway.
Buffalo Trace Distillery has a very interesting free tour, the Ark experience is great, Kentucky Horse Park is interesting, Cumberland gap state park is great on the drive up - hike the trail up to the survey marker of Tennessee, Kentucky, and Virginia. On the way back visit Cumberland Falls park and the historic resort.I've been to Lexington a couple of times and it's not a bad spot. I think there's plenty enough to do over a weekend.
