Not a fan of Forbes. No resume to speak of. Unless he wins a Natty between now and the time Barnes retires. My point was we don't have settle for the Bargain Basement hires anymore. No disrespect intended.
Yeah, I get it. Lol

Billy Donovan left Florida, which was a top 10 program at the time, and Florida got a guy from La Tech. It’s not bargain basement, it’s just the way it works now with how much money is into college sports. Whenever Barnes leaves we will either promote someone or get someone from a lower conference most likely (unless we want to still pay $5M lol)
Someone with an actual resume though. I would hope. Forbes isn't exactly killing it.

But that’s the beauty in all of this (at least for us fans). Tennessee has never been willing to do that.............but they are now.

Wow

That's surprising to me

The only thing I know from the Barnes situation was that Forbes would have been call #1 or call #2 and that part of the reason he has not taken any other jobs is because he is potentially waiting for UT. With Barnes new contract I don’t know if that will still be the same.

If Barnes retires they will go after the Gold Penny. Enough of the Forbes talk. If Penny isn't our next coach it will set us back 20 years. And yes I didn't waste the blue font on this one. It's pretty obvious.

I'd be fine with it but just assume he'd be further down the list

Has Forbes had a #7 preseason team?
This point always confuses me, not a knock on you Z...

So if Coach A has his team ranked 7th preseason and finishes 15th, and Coach B has a team unranked preseason but finishes 25th, which team had the better season?

In other words, why do we punish coaches for building a team that creates expectations and maybe doesn’t quite meet them but still has a good season?

Because you didn’t meet expectations compared to when you exceed expectations? That’s how life works there BTO.

In a vacuum did Tennessee have a better season than Ole Miss? Yes. Would I rather have Tennessee’s season than Ole Miss? Yes. Did Tennessee still have a disappointing season because they did not achieve their expectations? Yes.

I get all that and agree, but when people act like a team has a better season when they didn’t because the other “disappointed”, or says something like “well was such and such team ranked 7th preseason”, that never has made much sense to me.

Similar concept is Kentucky with Calipari, or even Duke of late...#1 classes every year should mean national champs every year or at least playing in the title game, but are they really disappointing programs for not reaching those marks?
