The Official #1 Tennessee vs #19 Auburn Weekend Series Thread (Friday 7PM EST SEC NETWORK) (Saturday 7PM EST SEC NETWORK) (Sunday 1PM EST SEC NET+)

Only 11 teams in the PAC12 and looks like no batting buffalos... just an observation. Surprised that a conference as historically good as the PAC (X) in baseball would allow that.

10 years ago or so Cal announced they were disbanding the baseball program. They ended up making Omaha that year and enough Alumni got involved that it was saved.

Well, I said last week that Auburn was the best team left on the schedule. I think they showed that. They definitely gave Tennessee its toughest test of the year. Now Georgia is the best team left. I don’t see Tennessee losing any of the remaining series’ and there’s a good chance Tennessee seeeps Kentucky and Mississippi Stare. Might be looking at 5 losses heading into the SECT. That’s incredible.

Colorado def needs a baseball team!! And yes, it snows in May but that only means we can still snowboard in June

Live in Denver; work in Boulder

CU football stadium is small but has character. The pregame running of the buffalo is not to be missed

Very little wrong with the coeds in sun dresses at CU sporting events and/or walking around Pearl Street. Not quite SEC quality, though. Too many have underarm hair

You can snowboard in June, so Colorado should have a baseball team?

College baseball’s regular season runs from February through May. It snows the entire college baseball season in Colorado. I can certainly see why they wouldn’t have a team. But whether they do it don’t, I’m guessing they’re not gonna get any top recruits to go play in that (which is a big reason they don’t have a team).

The SEC is the only major conference where all schools field a baseball team. Frankly, given the expense and Title IX requirements, I'm surprised that there are aren't more programs deciding to completely eschew baseball.

Agree. Of our cats & dogs series, the Barn looked to be the team to challenge us and they did. We whip the remaining cat and put the dogs in the kennels.

GBO!

Blade had obvious control issues, and Drew just lost his location command after the 3rd inning. If they both pitch closer to their norm, we win going away in both of those games and it doesn’t feel as close as it was. In other words, on our “best day” and Auburn’s “best day” scenario, Tennessee is clearly better and wins all three.

Not sure how I feel about this statement in light of what Vitello has done. He's brought our baseball back from oblivion. There's a confidence and air about us now that I've not seen very often with this program. We've latched on to one of those special coaches that comes along ever so often. As long as he's running the baseball program, we're a legit threat to win it all. That's why I'm not worried about a loss here and there. We're on track for the SECC. We're tracking to be the #1 overall seed....yeah I know the history but I'll take my chances with history. This years team has a tremendous opportunity and I'm enjoying every second of it. Bat flips and a loss are nothing right now. Get healthy, get the SECC regular season, and get the #1 overall seed. Those are my hopes. After that, let's go after the brass ring. When I view things like that, I just can't get worked up about a loss in April.

That statement was in response to "In Vitello I Trust". I have a hard time giving any coach a blank check. Things they do are fun and motivation, until they are not. I don't think I have to go down the Raleigh, Dooley or Jones rabbit hole.

I totally agree that he has brought the program out of the basement and on track to be the best coach Tennessee has ever had. At this rate he will blow Delmonico out of the water. If we doesn't win another game, the guy deserves coach of the year award. This team has played extremely well all year and been entertaining.

Some of my stance is getting a little more attention than maybe it should. I am not "bashing" Vitello or anyone. I am simply stating my opinion that it was stupid to throw the bat. There are better ways to deal with the bat situation. Seems like the last 2 out of 3 weeks he has done something to get the attention. The players are the show, not the coach.

The team definitely recovered well and played typical Tennessee baseball on Sunday. Great pitching and timely hitting.

No, the mentality of this program is you don’t take crap like that sitting down. Someone flips a bat INTO your dugout to taunt you, you get up and go back at them. Like it or not, TV has created a culture of guys who fight and who have an us against the world mentality. They’re 39-4. I’d say it works.

They didn’t just “celebrate.” This team “celebrates.” No UT bat has been flipped into an opposing dugout after a home run. That was intentional taunting, not a celebration.

We find different things entertaining. I watch this team for baseball plays on the field, not the celebrations or taunting or whatever other b.s. that occurs. This team does not and should not actually fight anyone. There are different more productive avenues for that type of violence and baseball is not one of them. Besides, baseball players are terrible at fighting.

What UT does is play baseball extremely well.

So the dude celebrated or taunted UT. Coach, needs to channel that energy in the right direction, not make it about him.

If it weren’t for CTV there would be about 10 of us in here figuring out what needs to happen for us to make Hoover. We barely had a program in the decade before Vitello.

I agree and think he should win coach of the year honors, regardless of how the season ends. I have read those messages.

It would be bad to THROW the bat. We are getting into semantics here, but throwing is different than the underhanded toss, is it not? That’s what Vitello did. Also, the bat from the Auburn player was slung with what looked to be obvious intent. It was not flipped, it was not tossed….it was slung with a frisbee like motion which caused the bat to come in hot. Tony stands in that one spot most of the game, and the bat came directly towards his area, and it was coming hard. Also, Vitello routinely grabs loose balls, dropped caps, equipment, etc from where he stands. During the course of a game, he probably retrieves something 9-10 times. It was natural for him to retrieve the bat and toss it. In the heat of the moment, he might have been miffed, but if he had thrown the bat, you would have known. Because it was a longer toss, yes, the bat skipped. The Auburn player shouldn’t have located his bat so well, and then no one has a chance to criticize Tony.

The best thing about El Paso is the Tex-Mex food and the Lucchese boot outlet! I used to cross the border to go shopping but no don’t know how safe that is anymore. Juárez looks like an ocean of lights at night.

Thank you to you and your husband for your service. You deserve a happy birthday! Go Vols!
Thank you. Today is his last day and he is officially out! 🥳

It was not a bat that he tossed back over there, but rather the hitters shin/ankle guard. Post 5606 in this thread has the clip of the event. The bat is laying on the T. But keep blowing up the false narrative that CTV threw a bat at the Auburn players if that makes you feel good and is a stance you want to take.
I like the fire our Coach gives to our team. If others around the league don't like it, tough crap. The best way to stop it is for them to beat us consistently. And right now, I don't see that happening.
