It would be bad to THROW the bat. We are getting into semantics here, but throwing is different than the underhanded toss, is it not? That’s what Vitello did. Also, the bat from the Auburn player was slung with what looked to be obvious intent. It was not flipped, it was not tossed….it was slung with a frisbee like motion which caused the bat to come in hot. Tony stands in that one spot most of the game, and the bat came directly towards his area, and it was coming hard. Also, Vitello routinely grabs loose balls, dropped caps, equipment, etc from where he stands. During the course of a game, he probably retrieves something 9-10 times. It was natural for him to retrieve the bat and toss it. In the heat of the moment, he might have been miffed, but if he had thrown the bat, you would have known. Because it was a longer toss, yes, the bat skipped. The Auburn player shouldn’t have located his bat so well, and then no one has a chance to criticize Tony.

Yes, semantics, but your right, it was a toss, that landed near the other teams on deck circle. I am pretty sure if the intent was to injury someone then he would give it a little more effort. However, if the argument is that he was just sending it back to the other team?
Eh.. Seems like a lot of effort and targeted area at an inopportune time. Could have tossed it back onto the dish and let the other team pick it up. Or lots of other options. My top 2 would include leaving it there until someone came to pick it up and/or hand it back to the umpire with a conversation about controlling the game.

I haven't seen him questioned about the bat.

Thankfully, UT went on to handle business and Joyce's fastball is the focus.

I agree. Its all good. And maybe CTV could have just handed the item to one of our bat girls and asked them to return it. Probably a better look.

It was not a bat that he tossed back over there, but rather the hitters shin/ankle guard. Post 5606 in this thread has the clip of the event. The bat is laying on the T. But keep blowing up the false narrative that CTV threw a bat at the Auburn players if that makes you feel good and is a stance you want to take.
I like the fire our Coach gives to our team. If others around the league don't like it, tough crap. The best way to stop it is for them to beat us consistently. And right now, I don't see that happening.

Watch this clip. It was the bat. The bat near the power T was laid down by the Auburn on-deck hitter.

Definitely was a bat and CVT "tossed" near the on deck circle.

You are confusing the bat on the ground with bat of the next hitter. If you watch the whole video, you will see him drop and then go back and pick it up.

I saw that on another post just provided above yours.

Please everyone watch the clip again and you will see the bat laying on the T behind home plate when the SHIN Guard comes flying in that bounced toward auburns players. It was not the bat. That was twirled prior. So not only did the kid throw his bat at our dugout, he also threw his shin guard at our guys direction as well. Tony did not throw a bat at Auburn kids. The shin guard bounced into the group
