It certainly is.

In a way, I think the other teams in the conference are still coming to grips with how the season has unfolded so far. It has turned out quite differently from preseason projections. Speaking for myself, it’s still surprising to see the State and the Rebels at the bottom of the West, even though the conference records are what they are. It’s been that type of season.

Wow, small world about your son! I had no idea. I live in South Carolina now, so I don't know many folks at Crockett these days (though I did graduate from there many moons ago). My niece will be a freshman at Crockett next year and will play basketball and volleyball for the girls' teams.

I love that idea of staying connected to the game. I'll mention it to my nephew. He's a really good, smart, kind, loyal kid who's going to do great things in this world. Can you tell I'm a proud aunt? LOL

My take is we swept, excuse me annihilated, Ole Miss, and had a sweep in line against Auburn if we close it down in the 9th on Saturday. So all these teams chirping in the conference can take their L’s and deal with it. People love to hate Tennessee anyways so I just embrace it. The rest of the SEC can suck it.

That's great until a brawl with a team that has little to lose ruins a historic year.

I actually live in SC also. If you do not know, my oldest is the HC of Crockett basketball and youngest is Kirby #35 with the Vols. I'm sure you niece and nephew know both. We are there for about half of the Crockett basketball games and good friends with the coaching staff for all sports there. Funny part is most are Daniel Boone graduates.

Our oldest is a baseball student manager at a Big 12 school. He loves it.

It has always been the case that “they” hate you when you’re winning big. You can call it envy, jealousy, or whatever, but they (meaning everyone who competes against Tennessee) hate it.

It's that and more, Gal. Not only are we better than projected, and not only are we better than the others, we are WAY better. That's what they can't believe. We didn't just sweep a series with OM, we demolished them. And right in front of their fans and families. They're in shock from how badly we beat them and others. And they wish they were good enough to do that to their conference rivals.

I've hated the Yankees my whole life, and it's simply because they keep beating my teams. I readily admit it's jealousy, and it isn't healthy, but I just can't help it.

Honestly, that's a concern of mine. Re: this past weekend - I'm thankful that this group of umpires helped diffuse the situation rather quickly and that cooler heads prevailed. I worried players and coaches would be ejected. Thankful they weren't.

We have a great, talented team of young men who are very competitive, play with much emotion, and have a collective chip on their shoulders. We have a talented, popular head coach who is hot headed at times. Opposing teams will try to bait them into things. While I understand being in the moment and the heated nature of competition, there is also a fine line that needs balancing. Hindsight is always 20/20.
