The Official #1 Tennessee vs Alabama State Regional Game Thread Friday June 3rd (6PM EST SEC NETWORK)

Who is rooting for whom by "DAH DAH DAAAHH!"

I think that's the special needs girl I was mentioning earlier. It's the same thing over and over each inning regardless of who is batting. Constant since 1st inning

Told ya Tech's pitching was pizz poor. Defense is NOT helping. Fastballs...everybody is connecting on that. Camels may put up an NCAA record on HRs during a regional game.

What have they done that's bad on defense? Campbell is just destroying the ball all over the field (and out of it)

Some notes and observations as the regional opens play:

1) Tony's goal for Hoover was to play good baseball. We did that, with exception of a couple of hiccups. All in all, mission accomplished - and then some.
2) Our infiled defense has improved leaps and bounds over the course of the season. Luc has been brilliant at FB, Ortega and Lawson are really solid up the middle, and Trey has become a terrific 3Baseman. And, as if right on cue for the post season, Evan threw out a couple of runners at 2nd base in Hoover.
3) Beck has impressed me in a number of ways: a) je doesn't let his slump affect his defense, which has been stellar, and b) he is still getting productive at bats with walks, sacrifices, and hard hit atem balls. He will start heating up and making some noise soon. And when his bat starts getting louder this offense will be almost impossible to contain. He might want to stand a little closer to the plate to cover that outside corner better.
4) Looks like Lawson found his way out of his slump at Hoover. Very good to see, and just at the right time.
5) Seth Stevenson's bunt vs Florida in the 5th inning was a thing of beauty, as well as the execution of the play by Evan. The play call was gutsy and huge, as it seemed like the watershed moment in that game.
6) Seth could maybe take a pitch or two in an at-bat once in a while, like leadoff hitters are taught to do. On the other hand, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
7) Burns control is worse when he pitches from the stretch, and since his stretch delivery doesn't keep anyone from stealing 2nd or 3d, he ought to just pitch in the windup with men on base and focus on the batter.
8) Let's hope that Burns and Beam have been handled so well in recent weeks that the freshman wall they hit is overwith and they are full speed for the postseason.
9) Blade seems to be rounding into his old form here just as postseason starts. A very good sign.
10) I bet the first and third base coaches are gonna make sure Trey understands exactly how many outs there are and when not to run with the ball in the air.
11) I hope Stevenson stops diving for fly balls that hit the ground 15 feet in front of him. Otherwise, he's been good in left.
12) CTV has this team primed and ready for the tourney, with the pitching where he wants it and everyone well rested.
13) I have utmost confidence that any lead we have after the fifth inning will give us the win given the outstanding way Tony handles the pitching staff during the games.

14) GO BIG ORANGE - LET"S ADVANCE TO THE SUPERS STARTING WITH CRUSHING OUR OPPONENT TONIGHT!!!!!!!

On item 3: I wish he would stop getting two strikes and then waving at the low outside curve ball. Move closer to plate or some such. Despite his two triples in Hoover, most of his at bats are horrible. Still can't believe that Sully choose to walk him to get to Drew. Florida coaching is an absolute j-o-k-e for making that mistake.
On item 7: Yes, he was an unreal slider. However, we have a mountain of work to do in the off season to shorten his leg kick from the stretch.

Great write-up and GOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOO VOLS!!!
